Ducati Multistrada 1200s Do I Go With Road 5 Tyres Or Road 5 Gt Tyres Help I Don’t Know Witch Ones I

  1. Ducati 1200s do I get road 5 or road 5 gt tyres help as I don’t know what to get

  2. I just use regular Road 5s on my 1260. GT is stiffer and, as far as I understand, is designed for bigger/heavier/laden touring bikes. If you load up with your partner and carry a lot of kit then maybe worthy of consideration but probably a harsher ride when solo.

  3. Exactly what @Bumpkin says. GT tyres for seriously porky 2 wheelers. Think Triumph Rock 3 weight with a large unit on ito_O

  5. Thanks a lot

  6. Just buying my second set of Road 5s for the Multi... on French / Spanish roads I fell in love with them...

I've never done that on road tyres on the road before... :)

    100km of absolute bliss.

They didn't seem to last as long as I'd have liked, that's about the worst I could say of them...

  8. Well... I'd need to take the centre stand off to go further. It now boasts a lovely "French chamfer"... ;)

  9. Now that is intriguing, my tyres are Metzeler M7RR’s and admittedly the edges was scrubbed at a Rapid Training track day in France but I have never ground the centre stand, the toe of my boots (size 47) yes but never the centre stand. Andy

  10. fully laden with 47 litre panniers on each side + topbox + enthusiasm.

  11. I tour with Roadtec 01’s and full up with two peoples’ gear, I still haven’t touched down the centre stand even with slightly less than 10mm of untouched rubber at the edge. I’m about 17 stone without gear so must be approaching 18/18.5 in kit so the suspension gets a good compressing. Curious. Andy

It is on a 2017 1200S... was surprising as the stand was the first thing to touch down, and it was on the RH side too!

  13. Could be all sorts though, camber in the road might be a factor too as if I was on my ear on a RH bend on the LH side of a fairly cambered road then ground clearance would be less, compared to a "flat" road.

  14. No experience with road 5's but I find the road 4's on my 2010 mutley superb for both touring and fun but even with spirited cornering I still have a few mm left, My DVT with scorp 2's on no strips, will take piccies laters

  15. I think tyre profiles play as much a part of the "how much left" story as the "how MM93 am I" aspect. Could also be the case that Michelins are "pointier' than the Pirelli or Metzeler tyres... I'd imagine that correctly inflated R5s on a DVT will run out of ground clearance at about the same place.

Someone probably knows better than me whether there's anything in this hypothesis?

  16. Maybe preload is a factor, as in your running too soft??

  17. I has hooks in the sky... 20 on the rear and 10 turns out on the front with "harder" selected in Touring mode...

  18. I’m skyhook too, I have never had the stand touch but I travel solo with at most a roll top bag on rear seat, so traveling lighter than you.

  19. Cheers that’s cleared that up
