748 Installing Oberon Slave - Suggestions?

  1. I have fitted the cylinder, attached a vacuum bleeder and I am getting no fluid up through the pipe and no resistance whatsoever at the clutch lever. After a few pulls on the bleeder if I crack the nut there is just a dribble of fluid from the banjo bolt.

I know that fluid is getting through as when I remove the banjo bolt the MC drains down. According to the vacuum bleeder gauge there is pressure in the system but it doesn't translate to either resistance at the lever or fluid being released up the attached pipe when the nut is loosened.

    Ideas?

  2. First though is, does it need the small (10mm ish) pushrod extension?

  3. Mine is a 2000 748R and instructions spoke of pre-2000 for that and if rod extended less than 30mm. After trying for a while without it and as my measurement of the rod indicated it was marginal I have installed it out of caution but the issue remains.

  4. Is the master cylinder still the original? I remember fitting a bleeder to mine when I had it and helped in getting all the air out.

  5. No, but it is an OEM replacement. Do you mean you bled from the MC? There is no bleed valve at my MC.

  6. Brouny, last time I did mine it was a reluctant starter due to an air lock in the slave. I cleared it by filling from the top with the slave nipple open then pressurizing by pumping the lever with the bleed nipple closed, then manually bleeding a little at a time at the bottom in the conventional way. Repeat pumping with the nipple closed was required between bleeds to clear the air lock, eventually it cleared just when I was going to get the vacuum bleeding kit.

  7. I'll give that a go now, how long approx did it take to clear? I am notoriously impatient when it comes to sitting next to the bike pumping the lever!

  8. I recommend fitting a banjo bolt with bleed nipple at the master cylinder.
This cured all my ills on my old 748 which didn’t have a bleed nipple at the master cylinder.
