Today I have turned my wife’s head inside out.
She is renewing the house insurance; she can’t get her head around the fact that 5 square metres isn’t the same as 5m squared, especially when I’m answering in square metres and the website she’s on is asking for metres squared (which in my mind is incorrect).

 

What’s wrong with Hectares?

The SI unit for area is the Square Metre, but the symbol is M^^2, which some people read as Metres Squared.
