Should Ducati Be Talking To Mm?

Discussion in 'Racing & Bike Sport' started by Symon Moore, Jun 18, 2020.

  1. He can’t be happy, the way little brother has been treated by the big H can he?
Surely that would be a match made in heaven for us Ducatisti?

  2. Are we sure that Honda just didn't do a favour for MM and that favour was just for a year?

  3. No we’re not sure, it’s all very odd but if I was Ducati, I’d have found a way to get a mate of a mate to have a word with Marquez.

  4. So Pol Espargaro is out of contract at the end of 2020 and it is no secret that he is talking to several factory teams to get the best ride for him in 2021. Will Alex Marquez be dumped by Honda without turning a wheel, who knows and not to put too fine a point on it, who cares ? Will Mark Marquez jeopardise his dominance of MotoGP and leave Honda for another manufacturer ? In the current format, only 2 riders have won MotoGP championships for different manufacturers, something MM must do IMO to seal his place in motorcycle racing history. Could he do it on a Ducati ? With his ability to ride a bike no-one else can, quite possibly. Do I want to see him ride for Ducati ? Absolutely not. Andy

  5. Yes he must do it in at least another bike, you’re right about that but you really wouldn’t want him at Ducati? I think his stand out brilliance outweighs any other issues & I’d love to see him here. Personally, I think he’s matured well, comes across really well off a bike nowadays & he did more or less nothing to Rossi that VR hadn’t done in the past if that’s your issue?

  6. Nothing to do with Rossi, although that stunt was very unsportsmanlike and on a par with what Schumacher did to Hill in Australia to deny Hill his F1 title. No, I just dislike Mark Marquez. Andy

  7. No argument there Andy, I just think that sporting history shows us that utter brilliance at a very young age often manifests initially as poor or unsportsmanlike behaviour (McEnroe, Tyson, John Daly, Schumacher to name just a few), but like these, in his sport MM is peerless imo & I’d love to see him on a Ducati

  8. The big issue many have experienced is getting the Ducati turned, and people have said the same about the RCV... so I think that if MM93 was to get on board the Ducati, get to grips with getting the bike turned and maintain the fierce outright speed (although I think Honda closed that gap considerably) then it could be special to watch...

Love him or hate him, the lad isn't dull to watch... JL99 is metronomic but MM93 is genuinely exciting to see ride... VR46 still is a bigger personality though! :)

MM93 would hopefully bring more of this stuff back!

  9. That’s a great post @Fire3500 We’ve all seem MM do things on a bike that defy physics & prove to us all why we’re not GP riders. I love to watch him, Stoner had it too. Nothing can take away VR46’s achievements but I enjoy watching Marquez more & I think he’s a generational talent as his record is already proving. I bet Ducati would love him!

  10. MM riding a Duke, that gets my vote.
The boy..., man has matured quickly too. I have gone from dislike to like and have a lot of respect for how he handles things now.
The Rossi thing? History. Not like Valentino is a saint either.

  11. Marquez is the best there has been in the top class, even at this stage.

Be careful what you wish for by saying he has to do it on another bike. If he and Dovi were both on the same bike, Dovi wouln't see Marquez for dust. He's winning races and championships despite the Honda, not because of it.

  12. Forgive my ignorance, what’s happened to mini M?

  13. I’m aware that I’m bloody grumpy today so instead of just disliking your post, I’ll explain my differing opinion. Mark Marquez is the best there is on a Honda, he has not ridden any other bike in competition to have shown anything different. If he wins another MotoGP championship for a different manufacturer, then I might agree with you  Andy

  14. So you think Marc Marquez wouldn't be as dominant or even more so on a Yamaha or Ducati?

That's an interesting point of view, but despite you saying you would explain why, you didn't. You simply repeated that he hasn't ridden another bike with a different manufacturer, not why he wouldn't be as awsome as he is now.

So, what is it about Marc Marquez that makes you believe he would be as succesful or more so on another bike?

    Rob.

  15. So what
What was it about there being no evidence Marc Marquez can ride anything other than a Honda wasn’t an explanation ? I’m grumpy Rob so forgive me if I offend. Let’s take Stoner to use as an example, he rode two bikes that were acknowledged to be challenging to ride. His style ideally suited that. Now let’s look at Jorge Lorenzo, peerless on a Yamaha that was acknowledged as one of the sweetest handling bikes ever and leaving out that Ducati ignored what JL wanted to do to the bike, he struggled for a year with them and then failed on the Honda. Same thing, his style suited the better handling bike. Now take Marc Marquez, I cannot with any certainty, say his style would transfer to a bike that he didn’t have to fight. Marquez’s talent lays in taking his machine beyond the edge of stability and then clicking it back to the very edge of stability. I’m just not sure a bike like the Yamaha can give that sort of feel on the limit. Just my take on it. Andy

  16. Honda ha
Pol Espargaro has his seat for 2021. Honda either used AM to keep MM happy, never intending it to be “a thing” or he ain’t good enough even to back up his brother at Repsol Honda. Either way, surprised if MM is happy about it

  17. According to the latest (today) interview video with Pol Espargaro on the MotoGP web site, it isn’t a done deal. Where have you got your information that makes you so certain ? Andy

  18. Thanks for clarifying. :) :upyeah:

I disagree, he's the GOAT. He could ride owt.

  19. Autosport.com reported it last week as a done deal. Quick search shows that story from June 8th. I’ve not seem much else on it since, but either way, my point is that I’d be sounding out arguably (but probably not) the best ever GP rider & see if he’d at least be interested in a conversation.

  20. You are wrong, unlike Giacomo Agostini, Marc Marquez (and Valentino Rossi) hasn’t won a classic road race so he can’t be the GOAT :D Andy
