(alleged) 78 In A 60...

Discussion in 'Lounge' started by Ian, Jun 20, 2020.

  1. Possibly not the correct place to ask (@Ducbird can you move / delete it if so please!) but a friend thinks they have just been clocked doing no more than 78 in a 60. Dry wide road, straight for ages, in a car. No silly overtakes just motoring. Not disputing they did or didn’t do it, but what fine and points can they expect please? No points already, driving 25 years. Is it a fixed penalty notice rather than court? West Mercia Police area.
    thanks in advance!

  2. Dependent on circumstances but based upon what you've said, with no other factors pertaining ... 3pts and £100 fine fixed penalty.

Before COVID, there was a good chance of getting offered a Safety Awareness Course £100 and no points instead.

  3. The cost regarding exceeding speed limits are a national guidelines
So google west Mercia speed and undoubtedly you will find the penalties staged up according to the speed over..
Alternatively you could court the diverse opinions in here

  4. Probably 3 points and a 100 fine from experience.

I got 3 points and a 100 fine for a much larger speed

  5. I don’t think the Covid 19 situation matters too much actually. From what I’ve just read up on the interweb the Naughty Boy / Naughty Girl courses are being done on line now. I think that from what I’ve read up on, if he gets three points that’s fair. A speed awareness course would be a big win actually!

  7. Hopefully just a £100 & 3 points fixed penalty. In court it can be 50% of weekly income.

Maybe you will be lucky and get a speed awareness course? Boring, takes up the entire afternoon, costs more than the ticket but no points bonus!

  8. I have done the course for the heinous crime of 36(or so) in a 30. I took the course because you don't save any money, but don't get the points.

Mine was a total farce (as, I guess, most of them are). The film that they showed to ram home our crimes was a reconstruction of a very serious accident on the M4. near Swindon. The salient point (that was ignored) was that the accident was caused by driving too close together in thick fog. But let's ignore the facts and concentrate on the speed - that had no bearing on the accident whatsoever, apart from the fact that they were moving, which you tend to do on a motorway!

One of the audience happened to mention that he was a solicitor and would be happy to help one of the other attendees who felt the speed limit (which had recently changed from 40 to 30) was not properly signed. Big mistake as the sol's table was surrounded by others who were asking about appeals. The course then descended into chaos and I went home.

  9. I wasn't offered an awareness course as I was 16mph over the limit, in Sussex though maybe different up there
Bottom of Bury Hill in case anyone is going to the bikers car park and doesn't know the area.

  10. That’s exactly what’s happened. Wife’s just gone to book hers & it’s an £87 digital online course in a months time. I see this as a huge result but she’s beyond annoyed. 35 mph in our daughters car :upyeah:

  11. This site has been invaluable over the years.... (Parking mainly)

  12. Do they? Well, I won't mention that I reached 150 mph as my target alway used to be 140 as I passed the 40mph sign at Stone. Do you want the exact time and date?

  13.
  14. I was just trying to be legal. I thought that it said 140! Very dangerous with all of the houses and turnings there! Let's count up - err, zero? That wouldn't explain why it is now speed camera city, wouldn't it? Coincidence, i am sure!

  16. You bet!

  17. Why is she so angry? She doesn't have to go to the centre, doesn't have to meet instrustors she won't like, doesn't have to meet other speeders who she doesn't know, costs less than £100, doesn't get three points. Its a great result.

Maybe you need to take over from her & be HWMBO? Just an idea!

  18. Mine was for no seat belt, took the course under advisement from the 2 coppers who’d pulled me. It wasn’t a waste of my time at all and the stills taken at the scenes were chilling to see.

We were grouped in with those caught using mobile phones. They had us watch a clip of a HGV driver describing his head on with a van while the HGV driver was on hands free.

He was in prison think his sentence was 5 years, he’d driven for 4 hours talking on his hands free.

  19. She knows it’s a great result really Jez, but she’s a 47yr old woman & is often irrationally annoyed for no reason. o_O

  20. I love you all on here but I have no sympathy for anyone exceeding the 30mph limit. Simples just don’t exceed it. In urban areas I do not exceed 30 or 40 mph limits car or bike, Countryside Nationals is playtime relative to hazards So well into 3 figures , motorways I keep around 80-90 Mph and make sure I don’t stick out as going too much faster than the rest. So far that seems to work for us and I have plenty of fun, includes riding with the boys in blue.
