Daughters new car is the Keyless ignition type and there have been quite a few shown on tv and news programmes with cheat devices you can even buy on ebay that means they can steal your car without even having the keys. She's seen some pouches that emulate a faraday cage and claim to keep the car safe. Have you bought a keyless entry/ignition type car, were you worried about remote theft and if so, what did you end up doing to to give yourself a peace of mind ?
I’ve not read this but it might have some useful information, https://www.autoexpress.co.uk/car-tech/101890/how-to-avoid-keyless-theft. If I understand how the theft is possible correctly, preventing a scanner from accessing the key should be the simplest way forward. I know it’s real old school but there has never been a substitute for a visible deterrent like the lock stick you attach to the steering wheel. Andy
I Purchased a soft Keyfob case from Halfords for my Discovery keys. When the keys are in the case I can stand right next to the car and the door won't open. I'm assuming that means a thief can't find the key from outside the house at night. I have another in my work bag for when I'm at my desk so it can't be located from outside the building whilst the car is in the car park. Nasher.
Wireless signals on some keyless fobs can be switched off. To turn off you should look in your cars manual to see if you can do this.or contact the vehicle’s manufacturer. Ford Focus, Fiesta, BMW, Audi & Mercedes have introduced Motion Sensor Key Fobs. A Motion sensor car fob will go into sleep mode after being inactive for 40 seconds, which prevents any criminals from getting the cars signal.
Mind you, anyone will struggle to steal my Discovery at the moment whilst I'm not using it much. It sits there all day keeping an eye on what's going on around it, sending me text messages to tell me where it is, what state the battery is in, the temperature, and generally leading a life of it's own. The consequence of which of course is a flat battery unless I remember to plug in my CETEK via the towbar socket.
If you want to get wise to exactly how weak these systems really are ? .... do a search for Samy Kamkar .... watch some of his videos The man seems to relish breaking all of the latest so-called " security " that vehicle manufacturers keep coming up with . He actually tells the manufacturers how easy it was , and usually gets either zero response , or the " sh*t eating grin "
Had my keyless entry and ignition car for over 3 years. Fuck all's happened!! The car makers are quite clever, stop being so paranoid and enjoy being a lazy fucker who does not have to fuck around with buttons when getting to the car I don't keep my fob anywhere special, not in some fucking nuclear protected bunker with an iron jacket round it, just in my pocket and when indoors on a key hook.
To me Noobs, hows the risk any different from walking toward the car with a fob and pushing the button ?? Both ways can be copied and tracked if ya that paranoid ?? Like I said, 3 years+ , fuck all happened......
Wash your fucking potty mouth out lad, this is a KTM forum and every fucker on here knows that really, even them GS weird feckers !!
As far as I know the original key has to be in range of the car for the scanner/amplifier devices to work. Best thing is to keep your car key far enough away from your car. If you park in front of your door with the key just inside your door your f....ed.
And ya key battery will die quick as it's in constant search mode. Keep ya key more than 10 foot from car, all will be well.
We’ve got a keyless and keep the key in a little pouch which works, looking at upgrading the car which will also have keyless so going to get this installed: https://autowatch.co.uk/veh-sec/ghost-2-menu basically a hidden immobiliser added to the car which uses the existing buttons within the car to create a pin code, as that’s a bit of a pain in the arse every time you can get an app where the car recognises your Bluetooth and auto disarms the system......as always if they want it then it will go one way or another!
Same here, I’ve got a wireless key pouch thing from eBay for about £5. You can be next to the car with it in the pouch and it won’t work
Get a ghost immobiliser fitted. basically you have to press a sequence of Steering wheel buttons that only you know before it will start.
I love the keyless on my car. I wish I had it on my Monster. If I didnt have to sell the house I would not have to carry ANY key when I drove. I replaced most or the lock s on the house with digital push button locks. I have insurance, I do not worry about theft. I hope all future vehicles have it. There are so many other ways to steal a car. Rex
