I have the standard seat and have done 1000km and 11 hour rides. Never had any comfort problems. You are allowed to move about on the seat whilst riding. Look up the Yoda riding position for some comfort tips.
Interesting reading here, I’m in a pickle. I have a 28 inside leg, yes bloody short so I am really start to struggle with the bike at rest, on a camber getting back on etc, made worse by onset of arthritis. I have a DP standard, low and comfort seat, all of them pretty shit in my opinion. As some of you have experienced comparison between OE seats and Sargent etc, are any of those lower than DP low seat and more comfortable? I really need to find a solution as lowering suspensions on Skyhook is not an option, excluding changing the preload settings. To the point that if I can’t find. Solution I might need to change bike
I have a lowered seat if anyone wants to make me an offer. Bought it off a member but upon trial, I already have a lowered one.
@Michel, my inside leg is a little longer than yours but I too struggled on a camber to get the bike upright once on the bike, especially if it was fully laden - panniers, tail pack etc. I fitted a side stand foot which effectively lengthened the stand by 1/2 cm or so but it made a big difference; so much easier to haul the bike up. Not exactly your problem I know but it might help.
I wondered if it would be the knees or the jewels when I bought this bike. It's the jewels. If the riding is spirited. lots of curves I am comfortable longer. But I can always go for a tank of gas... then stretch and adjust... Then another. If it was a straight commute I dont think so. BUT I cannot believe you cannot get relief from a custom seat. Are you accepting their version? or are these actually custom to you and what you want??? Lower Less lean forward More room for my balls Room to move my fat ass back a little... I would imagine if they just started with the PAN for the low seat a true custom maker could make you get through at the very least a tank of gas... FRex
I have the Touratech rider and pillion seats on my 1260 Mutley, certainly in my experience an improvement over standard. No more sliding around and my butt doesn't smart after 100 miles like it did with the original rider seat. The fact that I can ride all day and not notice any issue with my comfort in my opinion qualifies as a success.
For hot weather riding I also find using the Cool Cover on the seat to be effective... makes a real difference as you get airflow down there / don't sweat / stay comfy for longer.
@Edward Cunliffe, Sorry to resurrect this thread but who rebuilt your seat ? I’ve had my coccyx removed but still suffer with pain in that area of the Sacrum. I see the Touratech comfort seat has a built in depression to reduce coccyx pressure but I guess something made to measure to the shape of my bum would be ideal. Andy
Hi Andy, it was a chap near York trading as Smartrrrrs but he's closed down due to ill health unfortunately, did a cracking job on my seat. Sounds like you definitely need a custom build on yours to be comfortable.
Can you post some pics of the mods that you’ve made? Ooops! Just found the pics! That will teach me to make a post before reading the whole thread
@Android853sp Adding to my earlier thread, I now have a touratech front and rear on my 1260s, the difference is remarkable. I used to get pressure on coccyx and also aching at top of thighs with both standard and comfort OEM seats, in addition on comfort OEM there was kind of a ridge between tucked up to the tank and sat at the back of the seat. Both of these issues have now been resolved, did 175 up the dales last week and no aches or pains. I got my touratech 2nd hand off here by placing a post in Wanted section..
I am visiting an upholsterer on Monday to get new foam and gel in my seat as well as lower it. I can report back if you want.
I found it pleasant while in hot weather and an unexpected bonus is that you don't sit in water when it's raining. Even water running into your lap just seeps out through the cover rather than gathering... I have been pretty impressed. Worst thing I could say about it is that it's perhaps a bit slippy compared to a grippy seat, but actually that has its own value on a long journey, or when making progress.
So I took all 3 MTS 1200 skyhook seats I have, turns out one low and 2 standard from different years, all of them total shite. The mission was to have low seat height but with comfort. We decided to use the low seat. It was Carefully stripped . Then extra bits of good foam put toward the front to stop the nads being crushed on the tank. Then under bum gel insert and better foam put in, also slightly reshaping and rebuilding where inner thighs touch the side of the seat. Went for a ride today and I would say the old low seat has been transformed into all day very comfy, with low seat height and much more supportive too. I can truly recommend Alastair Else at Else Made, see website elsemade.com. He does great seat customising too. Done for the fraction of a Sargent option, and probably much better. Alastair has a true talent, and due to demand is now only doing bike seats. I am also aligned to his trade, and it’s truly shocking to see how cheap the standard foam used is.
Prior to purchasing my T/Tech seat, I modified a cheap seat from eBay. Up until recently it’s done quite well. Original foam was built upon with a firmer, higher quality foam, shaped then cover re fitted. It’s flatter, so les nut crush, but I’d say the underlying original foam is pretty shite.! I got the new to try, my modded seat, a standard untouched seat and one which I’m currently modifying with proper quality foam where-bye the seat will slope Fore/aft but with little or no curve.
