916 Varese Bikes - I Just Don't Get It - But I'm Coming Around

  2. We really need to see what that Bologna bike actually sells for before we even start to draw conclusions and say good night to this debate.
    Oh and when you know when 916 production restarted at Bologna, it would really help your argument.

  3. On page 9 of my Haynes manual, it tells me the Biposto 916 was released in December '94.
    As per the table collated by Ian Falloon I posted on page 1 of the thread, it shows 579 Bipostos were made at the Varese factory before the move back to Bologna.

    Do we honestly think that Cagiva managed to actually get all 579 of those bikes out the door before Jan 1st, 1995?

    Because if not, there's the evidence that Varese indeed produced 916's into the 1995 MY.

    I also agree with West Cork Paul with regards to all Ducati machines being hand-built in this era. Bologna, Varese... its still Luigi turning a spanner.

    The Castiglioni boys were nearly bankrupt most of the time anyway, how on earth could they afford automation?!
     
  4. Correction to previous post. I sold mine for £9500 in January 2018 - you won’t find a better, more original early 1994 example, it even had the ‘milky’ headlight, I sold it to a well known Italian bike dealer in the South, think he’s still got it. It needed a full service, not been touched for about 5 years.

  14. Other than the polished yoke I only noticed one other minor deviation form what we all perceive to be standard. A very original and honest looking bike. Surely cant be many with the original rear number pate holder left on still.

  15. Im being lazy (which is unusual for me) and not going to read from the first post,

    So the Varese bikes are the first batch built 916 in another factory because the crap electrics in the Bologna factory burnt down, (ok i added the crap electrics bit up) or am i wrong??
    Thats the first question.

  16. Yes, all 1994 models were built in a different factory and quite a few 1995 ones too.
     
  17. I don’t remember the yoke being ‘that’ polished but that was probably me with the excessive polishing ..... and I had the original receipt, service book and manual from 3 cross motorcycles who were the importers I believe in the day..

    The dealer I sold it to was Made In Italy Motorcycles ... they also bought my MK1 Superlight ....

    So second question, people think they are worth more because its a different factory or because they are the first batch/model or both the above.
     
  19. Some think due to it being a different factory :eyes: but it's due to them being the first model year as has been proven above :thinkingface:
