Hi guys V4 has Brembo RCS Corsa Corta m/c and using SBS DC pads and oem fluid I have found that when on track after a few laps the lever will start to come back to the bar (this also happened with original M/C and on my 1199s) Obviously I have tried to bleed the system many times so I am wondering what's going on , pads binding and generating heat , as I assume this is due to fluid boiling or air being compressed ... Do I have to have bike turned on to bleed due to abs unit ?? Or is it fluid type or just the way I brake ??? Anybody had similar issues ???
Try Motul 660 fluid. Also on SBS DC pads I have found that once they are over half worn they start to overheat.
I’ve not experienced any issues with the OE master cylinder on my V4S but I had 320mm Brembo race discs, SC pads and Motul 660 (@NoGutsNoGlory beat me to it) from day 1. I also replaced the “Rizoma by Ducati” levers for Ducati DP folders. Andy
I think they may have changed the compound on the SBS DC pads as they used to last ages but now I'm lucky to get 3 days out of a set.
Upgrade the fluid mate. Stock fluid will struggle with that set up. DC's are meant to be used with high temp fluid as they get hot! I can't even get a race weekend out of a set of DC's. But they are cheap for the performance.
here's a pointer I learned the hardway that may apply here: i had a god aweful problem with fade on my 1299 and went through several trackdays with fading brakes and litres of brake fluid, even trying race fluid. I then found out that the brembo master cylinder has two internal holes in it and for the front one to bleed properly there must be no "preload" on the brake lever at all. So back off any adjusters so the thingy that rests on the piston is completely slack : bleed & problem over. In my case this was probably exacerbated by me fitting after market levers and trying to adjust them to get a smaller span.
Cheers guys will try all the above one question I haven’t seen an answer anywhere is the abs before bleeding ??? Do I have to turn ABS off first ?? Or leave the ignition on ??
No and no, just bleed as you would normally. If in the very unlikely case you still seem to have air, get the bike up to speed and get the ABS to kick in. That will let any air trapped the m/c side of the ABS pump through. Andy
get a brake lever adjuster fitted on clutch side handle bar you can adjust with your left hand to bring the brake lever back out whilst still on the throttle
I have my ABS on one. No problems pulling up or brake fade. I’d say after 4 or 5 track days your pads will be shot. Oddly enough I’ve just replaced the fluid with Motul 660. I’m doing a track day on Thursday so I’ll bear this thread in mind if things get a bit spongey
I’ve had this on mine, I always set the lever too far out so the first 2 laps are a panic trying to reach then It’s about right. never had any fade but the lever touching my little finger on hard braking was a bit unnerving Bike was in for first service on Saturday so they’ve done a full flush with RBF660 so hopefully that’ll be fine. Got a few weeks until my next day out though.
Well I think I’ve figured it out , completely bled the front and rear system with mogul 660 and just done Cadwell 2 days and Silverstone and no issues
