996 Minor Mods For Light Track Use ?

Discussion in '748 / 916 / 996 / 998' started by Fastmonkey, Jun 29, 2020.

  1. Looking to run the 996s on track for a few events this year so wanted some help please for some minor people who have tracked their bikes.

Looking for brake pad recommendations not pure track but more track and fast road

Tyre's - rear size recommendation, is supercorsa the answer ?

Anything else I should do to help it run better, it s a completely std bike at the mo.

  4. That's really kind of you, but I managed to get some 2nd hand ones yesterday. They won't be here till later in the week and by all accounts they are pretty ropey as well !

  5. Nice list - How do you find the 180 tyre ? Does a 180/60 work as well ?

  6. I always used 180ā€™s on my 916SPS ratbike.

Cue gratuitous pic of bike I should never have sold...

  7. Ditch the stock headlight & headlight bucket in favour for SES race front bracket.

  8. I want to easily flip it back to Road spec so is it possible to just remove the headlights and run a track spec front fairing ?

  9. I just put the track fairing over the headlights.

  10. Yes, you could always just remove the headlights as easily enough done and use a race nose fairing. I have always chased weight saving, I have a Ali Bucci race tank, SES Ali front brace and the CM Composit carbon airbox and is way lighter than stock and much stiffer. For me me, weight saving has made more difference than anything else.

  11. okay, starting to make a plan for bits then now :)

What tank grips/stomp grips are people using ?

  12. I have a spare ses bracketāœŠ

  13. 180/55 tyre is excellent. Not tried a 180/60. I would look at Bridgestone S22 as well as Pirelli.

  14. If your feeling flush a slipper clutch is nice.

  15. I was surprised someone hadn't mentioned this already, but I did say minor mods I suppose.

I know that would be a good mod but probably out of budget for now............. made a real difference on my 848evo

  16. I have one of those too
