1299 Picking Up A 1299s 17 Plate Tomorrow

Discussion in 'Panigale' started by Rgvdave, Jul 7, 2020.

  1. Now then all,

I really know very little about them, other than they look amazing.

Aiming for a bit of road, bit of track and leaving it in my man cave to stare at over drinks while watching Motogp.

    Have a few questions

    - Where do I find info on how to use the rider aids? and how many riders aids are there?
    - Traction control, on a track day, how good is it? can you really be more handy with the throttle than before and know it will not throw you over the bars? I want to use this, but have no idea if it really allows you to nail the throttle more and let the bike sort itself out.
On the traction control, I am a higher mids to lower fast group rider, so I wont cry if some TC takes away a hero's lap time.

More questions to follow I am sure.

    Thanks
    David

  2. It’s all in the user handbook. TC is available at varying levels, you pick the one you like. If you are a scaredy-cat then set it high and it will look after you (quite often when you don’t want it to). If you are Casey Stoner turn it right down and enjoy power slides. BTW, there’s a TC upgrade available if you really are a riding god. It’s not cheap. @Nathanhu can tell you all about it.

  3. Dunno about the 1299 but I got the evo 2 software upgrade on my V4S and it’s absolutely superb. And yes, you can really take the piss with throttle input and it fires you out safely.
Downside- I’d be super wary riding a bike without it now. It’s de skilled me....

  4. The bike is registered as July 2017, how do I know it is a 2017 model that has Spin on demand (gotta love youtube)

  5. Hi Dave,
i bought a 2016 1299s but Luckily negotiated any upgrades to the 2017 model.
a proper 2017 MJ should have the Evo software upgrade already installed but its not easy to check its been installed.
you will need to pop over to your local dealer and they can read out the firmware version for you to confirm.
in regards to the difference between with and without, my 1299 on the track with a full Akra system fitted was very hard to transition from apex to exit on the gas as the bike would modulate between TC/WC and the rear would pump quicke badly. Post Evo install this went away and i was able to see the TC trace via the DDA application as a lot less 'intrusive' and rate of intervention was more finer.
compared to my 1199 track bike the 1299 has huge torque below 7k and i think takes advantage of improved TC algorithms and Slide control if you are able to go there etc :)

  6. Sorry to hijack, but what was the cost for that, as I might do it with mine?

  7. ~£400 IIRC. But that was immediately after it was released. Might be a bit cheaper now. It’s really ace ;):upyeah:
