Hi All My 2015 Hyperstrada is due its first major service - so the big one with timing belt changes etc I've just rang the local Ducati dealer and to be blunt my jaws just hit the floor when he quoted me £1500 for the service!?!?! This cant be correct can it? I wasnt expecting it to be cheap but thats come in about 2-3 times what I was expecting. If this is the normal dealer price is can anyone reccomend a non dealer establishment that would be able to do it at a slightly more reasonable price around Manchester / North West. Thanks Gaz.
“first major service”, is this on time or mileage ? If it’s time, IMO, they are having your pants down. If it’s on mileage, I can only think that they have factored in potential work to change shims. Andy
Crikey mate that does sound expensive,as a basic belts & oil change is around £350/400,so what's the rest for then?..valve clearance or other?........or a very cheap holiday in spain.
Its on time & milleage - its 5 years old and has done about 15k miles so I was expecting to have belts done and valves checked on top of a normal annual service. I just genuinely didnt expect the cost to be that high.
You could ask for a breakdown of what the costs are but with Dealer labour costing anything up to £100/hour, you are looking at £1000 just for that element. Find a good independent, Cellier BVT (aka Ducati John) is in Rothwell (not Rotherham) which is still about 40 miles from you (?). Andy
@LuckyDip23 Whatever dealer that is just make sure you never go there or buy anything from them. The belt and valve service is not a cheap one but £1500 sounds exorbitant. Maybe ask them for a written quote so you can see what they have scheduled and perhaps you can post it up here too. I`m sure a couple of the Manchester based members will be able to recommend a good local Indy to you and hopefully save you several £hundred.
You can buy loads of spanners and watch loads of You Tube videos on your extortionate mobile data for £1500 or a new bike FFS!
Valves aren't due 'til 18000 on the 821 motor. Little point in doing them early as they're a mileage related item and wear will happen with miles. I'd leave them for another 3000 miles.... Likewise plugs, air filter are all mileage based swaps. At 5 years you could do the annual and the belts (5 years), maybe needs brake fluids or a coolant swap on top?
I would and use around the northwest are Lee at Moto Technica Neil at Cornerspeed Rich at Moto R woods motorcycles in Abergele stay away from main dealers in Manchester @1500 for a service
Ouch, big number for sure! Any update on whether you found someone local-ish to do the work at a better price? When the time comes for my 939 hyperstrada big service i'm only a couple of junctions down the motorway from Ducati Manchester & certainly wont be affording 4 figures My next stop would be asking bike tyre services over the road, always get my tyres & MOT there but no idea if he does much servicing but might know someone if not. Fair few options above though.
I asked about a service on my old 821 at Manchester they were quoting £1200 to £1500 which in my opinion was a ridiculous price on the bike worth 4 and half grand
