I got my 2018 Multi 1260S the end of April, and I've put about 5,000 miles on it now (July)... Really a great bike! I use the quick shifter most of the time, up and down... Then, I got to thinking... Is it easier on the engine, and drive train to USE the quick shifter, or to use the clutch all the time, and use the quick shift sparingly? Inquiring minds want to know!!!
Keep using the quick shifter. The electronics keep everything sweet. Disable the quick shifter and shift manually using clutch on down shifts. It will feel lumpy and generally crap. You can feel the transmission load and unload. Have a play, see what you think. You’ll soon have an idea which is best from a mechanical sympathy point of view....
My quickshifter feels lumpy a lot of the time, particularly on the downshift. Maybe I'm still getting used to it but the one of the SuperSport I tried the other week was sweet by comparison.
The electronics do not shift your bike. The QS feature simply slightly pauses engine power during upshifts to allow the gear sets to engage and blips the throttle during downshifts to do the same. IF it works perfectly there should be no stress on the transmission, however it does not always work perfectly, which does cause unnecessary stress on the trans. QS was designed to shift at high rpm in racing to help gain fractions of a second. It is a very crude technology and was never intended to be an all around semi automatic transmission.
