Thinking About Buying....

  1. The service plan for Ducatis is quite straightforward - for bikes in the last 20 years of so. If they want to sell unserviced bikes then they should get out of the trade. If they think Ducatis are too complicated for them then they shouldn't deal in them. Either way, it reflects badly on them. If they treat you like this when you are a potential customer, then once the deal is done and you have a complaint, they will be studying their shoe to see if they've trodden in something when you are nearby. Go to a Ducati specialist. Plenty of recommendations here...

  2. Yeah ok, I'll offer him £2500...based on what's been said and I tend to agree £3000.00 is steep compared to what you can get for your money, as somebody said earlier, the belts have been sitting in the same position for over 3 years and that wont of dine them any good,..yeah 3 grand is too much...I'll have a look around on the net...I'll say this though, I'd buy a Ducati anyday, partly because I've always fancied one and secondly because this forum is one of the best I've ever been on, you guys are great...

  5. I posted elsewhere that I'm going to try and get a 748 for under 5k. I've only has a quick look on eBay and Autotrader. I'd go for a 749. You might have to go more expensive but a much better bike!

  9. I didn't realise you were in Scotland but there's Ducati Glasgow, I think and there could be other specialists in Scotland but my knowledge of Scotland is zero - apart from knowing that I want to go to Thurso when I get riding again. I was in Stirling a few years back at about this time of year and the weather was brilliant! Plus, I never saw darkness!

  12. love these threads... ive just closed in on a new toy purchase so can only echo what has been said here

its a buyers market and buying into a falling market means we can only ever over-pay

i wouldnt be texting anyone... if you want the bike you need to get on the phone or in his face

and i am not sure a warranty is worth much in real terms

  13. I sent the shop owner a text explaining it's a bit pricey,..he's actually a pretty decent guy so I've got nothing bad to say about him or his shop. I hope he does ok out of it and maybe he will end up doing the belts, for me I'm going to keep looking, I reckon with Covid it's been hard on a lot of people and that will include bike shops, I hope people get through this, survive, and make a comeback, up here in Scotland Biking days will be over soon as the weather is turning...you guys have been great today, thanks for all the input, the advice and I am overwhelmed at all of your kindness ..

Thank you so much...if we were all in the pub ..you would all be extremely merry lol...

  15. Just had a glance on Autotrader. First bike that came up is not a massive amount more than your original price. It's worth a look around. I dunno when this place is but it's in England, I think. But still worth keeping an eye out.

Never buy anything without seeing it especially a bike.
Never ever start one up that’s not had belts done for a few years either get the owner to do that :)

  17. what ducbird said

as i type, i am on my merry way back down to the south having viewed a private sale in harrogate.

the vendor started the bike on my request... the belts are 3 years old and hes only done about 10 miles since taking it for mot in june and about 1k miles since buying it in late 2017

i had the fairings off, kicked the tyres really hard and got him to send me every bit of paperwork he had by scan

i then called all the dealers that had serviced it and got ducati leeds to run vin checks against their factory records to make sure it was all kosher

it will be trailered to nelly by a lovely man called carl from here before it then gets collected by me
