V4 Foggy Rep - Investment Bikes!!!

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by AndyTheFox, Jul 30, 2020.

  1. So, popped up to Riders Bristol today for a nose and a chinwag with Jeremy, and some lucky chap was collecting his V4 “Foggy 916 Edition” must say, the bike looked lovely (as do all Panigales in my opinion)

After seeing the bike in the flesh, it got me thinking about bikes and investing in them. Cheapest V4 Foggy I could find was £35k ish. Looking at prices for the original foggy reps, desmo’s, R’s final editions, Senna’s etc etc, it seem like a really strong market.

Has anyone on here any experience / advice around getting into this area of investment? I am sure it’s a minefield and you really have to know your stuff, have an eye for the right machine etc. Certainly more accessible than buying equivalent mark cars.

That being said, could I really buy an investment bike and not want to ride the tyres off of it ‍♂️

  2. I honestly don’t think there is any hope that the foggy bike will be an investment, it’s not an R, and too many dealers have them sat around

  4. Foggy hasn't raced for how long?

The relationship between a V4 and any bike that Foggy raced in WSB is ¦¦. Don't get it, me.

  7. 6 Senna's went through the same Bonham's sale about 7 years ago for the average price of around £6000. Timing is everything!
You need to pick the right bikes on the turn.
Ducati R's usually drop to 50% value after abut 10 years and then start to climb - the Foggy V4 and the 1299R FE are marketing hyped non R's and will not perform as well as the real thing - the Pani R (2015 onwards 2nd Gen) appears to have bucked the trend and stopped dropping in price earlier than it's historical cousins.
There has been a slight lull in the market for the higher end bikes lately, but the base and S models have climbed significantly over the last 2 years which is odd as they usually rise together. But there will be a correction and the rarer bikes will take off again as is always the case after a general fall in the market.
Apart from the rarest bikes there is an age cycle for investment - pick the right bikes at 10 to 20 years old and you can make serious money, pick popular 40 year old bikes and you won't as the punters are slowing down and dying off :skull:

  13. The V4 in general (In which case I agree) or the Foggy rep V4? (which almost works imo)

  15. The Foggy, I like the V2 and the V4 Corse, foggy rep looks chavvy to me but I’m not keen on stickers or massive words/numbers on a bike.

  16. It’s better looking than the V4 one!
I think there’ll end up like the “speciale” and 1299 final edition - sitting around and with 4/5k off.

  17. The Bikespecialist’s stickered 2019 V4R laughingly called a “Foggy Rep” is nothing to do with CF, Ducati or any authorised UK Ducati dealer, I’m not even sure that the bikes (edited for @Exige) are allocated by Ducati for the UK. Andy
