Major Service Recommendations - Devon Area

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by Triple7, Aug 2, 2020.

  1. Hopefully this is in the right spot! Forgive me if not and mods feel free to move.

I've got a 12 plate SF 848 with a major service coming up within the next 1500 miles.

Just wondered if anyone had any recommendations for places to get this done. I'm based in North Devon, I don't know of any Ducati indy's near me and the nearest main dealer is Bridgewater. But maybe someone know's of a garage with a great reputation in the area or whether I'm better off just going to the main dealer?

I've had a quick search on here, am I right in expecting a bill with similar numbers as my engine capacity lol?

  2. No personal experience with them yet - Louigi Moto just South of Bristol has an an excellent reputation.

  3. Cheers bud, will have a look. They're still a good 100+ miles away but then I seem to live miles from everything haha.

  4. I am literally equidistant between the two of them :joy: FML.

Appreciate the recommendations though, may still go with one of them unless I can find someone reputable and closer.

  5. There may be a 'Riders' thread here somewhere. All I know is that they're £100/hr, which is why I'll be talking to Louigi Moto if I need help... Good luck!

  6. Haha thanks dude. Very good point! Probably worth the journey to Lougi then.

  7. It is well worth the extra time to get to Rich at Louigi moto ,first class service from a trusted indy ,usually some interesting
road and race Ducati to view ,and there is also a excellent pub just up the road for refreshments after your trip .

  8. I’m in Exeter and used Riders in Bridgy. Ok service but not cheap.

Cost is on par for the average official dealer but sadly salary inflation isn’t....

  9. Another option would be Steve Hillary at Redmax up at Dunkerswell http://www.redmax-ducati.co.uk/. He certainly knows what he’s doing.

I also wonder if any of the shops in Exeter would do it. SP maybe ... they are an Aprilla and KTM dealer but I have been told that their mechanic used to work on Ducati’s.

  10. Another vote here for Rich at Louigi Moto. Did excellent work on my 1198S, and good rates. Works better than new now

  11. Awesome, thanks guys. Redmax is certainly looking like a great option otherwise failing that I might try and plan something around Louigi Moto. I'd rather go to a good indy than a dealer so at least there's some good options there.

    Appreicated as always chaps.

  12. I’m a huge fan of using Indys but correct me if I’m wrong, they are only decent on the models they were trained on and how would they know their way around the newer models?

I wouldn’t take a V4 2020 model to a person trained 15 years ago on a 999. Or am I completely misguided in my thinking?

  13. Agreed - I would hope & expect that a good indy would be upfront about their capabilities and react accordingly...

  14. I got some work done on my long dead Monster S4r at Lougi Moto. He lent me a bike to take home and bring back when I picked up mine. Worth asking and seeing if you can fit in with dates. Well worth the trip.

  15. Let me know how you get on with Redmax if you end-up taking your bike there. I know Steve by reputation and have been up there and spoken to him a few times and seen his work, but I’ve yet to take a bike to him. I always used Rich at Louigi Moto when I was in Somerset but now I’m in Devon I’m thinking of getting Steve to do the next service on my 888 and if I’m happy probably the 996, Baines Imola and the wife’s Monster as well. Rich is a mate and his work is top notch but it is a bit of a schlep from my place to Clutton now.

  16. I think I’m safe in saying that neither Steve nor Rich would take a V4 in to do work on. In fact like most of us that were brought up on the cam-belt desmoquattros and desmodues, the latest bikes hold little appeal for them and aren’t what they work on. They have more than enough business working on the older stuff. They will both happily tell you this. If you want the very best standard of work doing on a V4 then I’d suggest Motorapido or JHP (thats where my D16rr goes) but be prepared to get bent over!
