  1. So for our 11th wedding anniversary the boss and I are going to have 3 nights away without the 4 kids or the dog!!!!!!
The plan is to trailer (on my new Motolug) the 916 over to Bangor and use it as a base and ride some roads over there then trailer it back. This will be done 21st - 24th August. The hotel is booked the childcare is arranged and The routes we will be using are pictured below. Has anyone ridden these routes and if so any ideas on where to stop for luncheon would be great. Or the best places to stop for girl and photo shots, Or any knowledge of the area would be amazing (I’ve never been before having always gone to Scotland as I’m half Scottish and have family there).

    Thanks in advance
    Jon

  2. Sorry can’t help with spots to stop, but driven many of those routes many times as my lad was at uni in Bangor for 4 years

  3. TBH the western part of route 3 I have done and is all good, but you will get fabulous riding around Bala, Dolgellau, Snowdonia inner. And all very easy from Bangor.

  4. Stay away from the horseshoe pass as it is all cameras up average speed 50 miles an hour, rhug estate on the A5 is a good place to eat, Barmouth and Mach loop is a good ride also devils bridge and Elan valley, coast road around Anglesey, lake Vyrnwy Bala loop

  5. Portmerion is a bit whacky but they let us (UKMOC) rid ‘in’ for some great photos

the hotel at the top of the hill there does some pretty decent grub if it’s open

  6. Excuse me :astonished: you’re going away for a 4 day romantic weekend with your other half and she’s riding pillion on a 916:astonished:. Are you nuts? Nice part of the world though.

  10. You can fit in a ride around Anglesey! well worth a punt'

  11. Yeh thinking when we go over on the Friday of dropping everything in the hotel and then going for a jaunt around Anglesey. No point in going over there and not doing it.

  12. Take some wets. I’ve only been over there once before to do a triathlon. I was there 3 days and it pissed down for 72 hours solid.

  13. We have full rain gear from when we did the tour of the south west of Scotland it rained plenty there too. My biggest issue is I don’t like the bike getting wet but oh well

  14. Beaumaris pier house cafe or gazelle hotel
    Trearddur bay sea shanty
    Rhoscolyn the white eagle

  15. Wow a 3 day triathlon epic.:upyeah:

  16. I’m not just a pretty face ;)

  17. So the plans have changed the boss (wife) is due to have major Throat surgery on the 10th / 11th August and should be released a week later if all goes to plan if not she will be in there for a long while and the trip will be cancelled. She still wants to go away and insists I take the bike so I can go out on it. As such I’m looking at shorter routes nearer to Bangor.
If anyone can oblige with shorter routes nearer to Bangor I would appreciate it.
    Thanks
    Jon

  18. Sorry to hear that matey, hope it goes well as it can.
I’d just head south to Bala etc and the loop. And maybe a day around Anglesey. Good luck!

  19. Cheers pal
It is what it is. She needs the surgery but it’s pants timing! it has made me consider selling the 916 to get a more comfortable bike so it’s better for her like (date I say it) a GS which I had before the 916 or an RT
