That to me is neither a proper 748R in the purest sense or a ex race bike where it has providence and pedigree, I personally wouldn't touch it as it's a bitsa looking for primo money.
Hmm Jemspeed haven't the best of reputations and that's a large chunk of $ on a motorcycle IMO There is/was a 998R for sale cheaper that was posted on here a little while ago, if still available might be a better option.
There was a 748r on eBay that originally wanted 5k. After being told it was suspiciouslly cheap it's now up for 6k but I imagine you could get It for the original price. You could then throw a few grand at it to give it the attention it deserves and have a pretty nice example Imo.
Dibble sums it up rather well there @NOODS X . It isn’t a good original example of a 748R, it isn’t a well documented owners upgrade of a748R, nor is it a period race bike with history. The only reasons I can see for buying it are if you think the ride is worth the money, or you think you can turn a profit by breaking it!
"IF" it's a proper genuine RS spec bike it will need major engine maintenance work every 500 miles or less and there's no way that that has been done and I personally don't believe that they can demonstrate that it is what it's being punted as. LEAVE WELL ALONE!
Then it's sold bud, it was highlighted in the Ebay bikes. it started a little commotion soon smoothed over with an apology from the very decent Brummie West Coast Paul.
I’ve taken your advice And bought it... Got you going for a second didn’t it? When I say I’ve bought it? I’ve bought into your advice and I agree not to pursue it further.. Thank you guys and Gals for your views etc really appreciated as always.. X
@andy j has a 748 track bike for sale @NOODS X that would make a good project for you mate. Ref the mot all you need on a track bike to make it road legal is a number plate and a horn.
I think you’ve made the right choice Noods, I don’t go in for modifying bikes anymore, I’ll add practical things but beyond that I can’t be bothered anymore. But when I did it certainly wasn’t with the plan of increasing the bikes value or appeal (because it doesn’t, if anything it’s the opposite). I’d do it for my own enjoyment and that’s the crux of it. You’d be buying someone else’s enjoyment. IMO I’d buy a stock 748R and if you get enjoyment out of rebuilding/repairing bikes then maybe one that needs a little loving and bring it back to concourse condition. That way you’ll get the enjoyment and maybe make some money too, you certainly shouldn’t loose any?
Good decision Noods. Dibble and Hughdg summed it up for me. You don't need an RS for a road bike. No-one does.
No mte I know it’s more a case for me as it is with most things it’s the look of the Bike that matters to me I adore Foggys no4 955 Corsa and so want to re create that look in my life time .. and things like the front forks etc will be near impossible to do so the more I can get in one go the better so to speak... X
You're so well out of that bike. It is mis represented beyond belief. Having had a second look at it the description given is total and utter bollocks. It would be some small compensation to know that the author just didn't know any better but I somehow doubt it. Just my personal opinion obviously but I suspect others may agree. Good luck with finding a more suitable machine, I 'm sure it won't be too difficult.
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/383672851138 Near me.... Always luved the titanium grey S, bit high on mileage, Cat D ... might be up for Giving it a serious refresh Plus white number boards and single seat conversion and Then keeping it, well, when I say keeping it I mean at least until WH win the champions league anyway.. Wouldn’t fit the obligatory ( it seems ) SENNA sticker though Lol ... X
That looks quite nice same colour as the beemer 100%seller hmmmm my first thoughts were that would suit you .... Pop the link into your other thread noodles and see what others think
Been following your latest ups n downs. Dont want to seem like a kill joy, wouldn't it be best not to have a big spend up, until you are back earning a living? Do excuse me, if you can afford to splash out on a new bike. Wouldn't want to see you under extra pressure, financially.
Hi Mte Your most welcome to ask me anything at anytime friend seeing as I luv ya ( #inamanlywayobv) I’m taking medical severance from work and I’ve been really busy making things for people carpentry wise manly which I get paid for so I’m at present better off financially and hope to continue health allowing building a portfolio of my work to allow me to retire happy and yet busy.. 748s is a good looking bike and will be loads of laughs. That particular colour was limited to only a few in the UK as I recall and don't let anyone try and tell you it's a Senna as it plain and simply isn't. It will have the later Testabassa engine with the lowered exhaust cam which is a nice straight forward 4 valve and relatively easy to maintain. Only possible downside is that the bodywork will be difficult to touch up if it's chipped or scratched and finding s/Hand panels in any condition will be nigh on impossible but hey it's a 18 year old model and should be about riding and enjoying rather than being a cosseted show piece. All in all a much better choice than that other thing you were looking at.
