  1. mine had just had its annual service, not the desmo. Only mentioned because the one you’ve inquired about was last serviced 2018, that’s about 300 quid at a main dealer

  2. Yeah they doing oil filters brake clutch fluid etc so shouldn’t need anything until next year

  3. Depends how much riding you do I guess, that desmo interval isn’t far off.

Great bike to ride though, likely find it easier going than your 748. Bit crap around town like any other twin sports bike. Hot on your knees too

  4. Yeah I thought it would be straightaway but it isn’t 5year. my plan is ride few mi the this year and around 2k next year as il be away then look at 2022 doing it.

Hopefully it feels planted more and confidence inspiring like reviews suggest
    Cheers for all the replies

  5. Chuck 50 quid at getting the suspension set up for you and it’ll be well planted

  6.
  7. Yeah I have thought about that

it’s just the general consensus I got from reviews. What’s the stock exhaust sound like as videos I guess don’t portray it best and just mainly a lid of engine noise

  8. Just factor in the service cost a dealer quotes. My 959 is coming up for it and I have no worries at all, apart from the bill in the winter for the swamp service. If it looks like the chain is rubbing the swing arm that is normal as well and no concern according to Ducati dealer I use.

  9. Swamp service?
Oh right I have seen that from pics etc
I’ve been away from bikes for a while and will be first bike back but I’m a little out of touch with what needs doing etc atm

  10. It’s also had chain sprockets and rear pads done 2018 not sure how long they last

  11. Dan, they are very decent to ride! Bit of a different concept to the 748, much much more revvy! Loads of power compared to a 748 but comes on quite strong at 8k revs, a 748 is making its max power around there! So yeah very different.

my only issue with the 899 is that the rear shock has a weird issue With locking out over really big fast bumps which fires you out the seat and makes the rear feel vague. It’s not to do with set up bevause it’s how the oil flows inside, I had mine modified and serviced by MCT for £230 and it was a different motorcycle!

by Desmo (Deano) service is probably around £600 at a good dealer, check for water leak residue on the left side stator cover, and check coolant level, as I’ve known a few water pump failure and it’s £4-500 on the 899 as the whole side engine cover has to come off. Not trying to scare you, it’s an awesome bike.

I’m on to a V2 now, still epic

  12. Cheers for that Phill!

yewh I’m looking forward to it but also little sh*tt*n it
Only thing is got to see how the termis sound from standard and with/without baffle and go from there.

  13. To give you some context, my last two bikes before the 899, which has stock exhaust and functioning valve, were an RSV4 with full Akrapovic system and a crossplane R1 with dual Akrapovic and decat Y-pipe, both sounded amazing by the way, and to my surprise the Euro 3 stock exhaust setup on the 899 sounds really good coming from these two beasts. I was pleasantly surprised when I first heard it in person and you're right, videos don't represent how it sounds compared to being stood next to it or riding it.

Based on the effort to change the 899 exhaust and getting the ECU mapped, I'm not planning on doing it. I've also read that generally there isn't a huge sound difference by going aftermarket on the 899, which is the main reason why I have changed to more open exhausts in the past. That said, I haven't heard an 899 with an Akrapovic or Termignoni in person, so if I did, that may change my mind.

  14. Loading the Upmap is easy if your smartphone is recognised by the Upmap dongle that you connect to the socket under the seat. The map is already in the ecu; as opposed to the 1199 which isn’t. Just download the Termi app to your phone. Input the key code and away you go. Just make sure you select the right map. It’s just a numeric so check before hand which one you need. Termi with baffles or Termi without or Termi full system. You get the idea.

  15. That’s a great help. I’d presume it would have up map with it and I’m trying to find out atm what is actually on it just end cans or full

  16. That sounds good then. I know on my 748 it sounded a lot better but that went up from 45mm to 55mm pipes.
Might have to see if baffles out is worth it if I have to wear earplugs

  17. I thought it was the other way around and the 1199 ECU has the map on it ready to be unlocked, but the 899 doesn't.

  18. Silly question does it need the up map?
Spoke to dealer and they don’t have an invoice for termi system as they said previous customer info they don’t keep

  19. Generally with any bike, once you start changing things that affect how it operates based on the fuelling, such as deleting the cat(s) and introducing more open exhaust pipework, you should get an appropriate map, as the stock map isn't designed for such an open system.
