What am I missing (1098 v 848)?

Discussion in '848 / 1098 / 1198' started by redsail, May 25, 2013.

  1. The 1098 has more torque than an 848 and thats what does it for me!. That mid range sprint and the ability to whip up a lot of power instantly! Oh yes!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. you are wrong..........

  3. I had an 848 out on test once and loved it,but, I was moving from an sp1 and felt it was a step down power wise ( im 6ft 2 and 15 stone ) im riding a 1098s and compared with the 848 I love the power delivery, from a to b I wouldn say its faster but its lots and lots more fun. wheelies anywhere you want huge mid range torqe etc . if you were on a private road of course.

  4. How many BHP does the basic 1098 have? I'm guessing not much more, if any than a new 848.

  5. depends how the figures are fudged.........im guessing around 30 hp and 25 lbs ft of torque.....

  6. Base 1098 has (allegedly) 160bhp and the 1098R had 180bhp.

The 848 EC (allegedly) has 140bhp, which is more than enough for the road.

  7. sorted for you...

  8. You also have to look at the torque curve - the curve on my bike is almost flat, well the copy of the dyno sheet says so anyway ( ill have it run up myself just to see how the local dyno and hackers compare)

  9. I've had 180bhp with my R1. You couldn't use half the power it had on the roads.

  10. Are you saying you could use all its power on the track?

  11. No. And neither could anyone else on here.

There again I don't do the track nowadays either.

  12. So why did you buy it then...if an R6 would of sufficed.....'in the real world' n all that.:upyeah:

and on another note any bike will only go as fast as the imput into it.....trust me it will fall over without a stand or operative.

  13. im finding myself wishing I could try the 1098r, whatever you have is never enough.

I may be wrong but doesn't the 1098 put out about 140bhp????????

and the 848 about 120???? real world not pretend.

  14. Because I liked the look of it, and it was a good price.

I'm just quoting manufacturers specs. So sue me.

  15. More power and importantly torq. Means you can be really lazy and make good progress where 848 may need a gear change or two.

But I know which is more fun on your average fast road ride ;-)

  16. IMHO it's more fun to ride a bike you feel you are working hard than one which feels like its laughing at you for making its life too easy. From a personal point of view i also prefer something that doesn't goad you into losing your licence.

But its whatever tickles your fancy. There are plenty of different bikes out there to choose from.

  17. Yes, a 1098R with 70mm full system Termis, custom rolling road map (DP ECU runs slightly rich making the power delivery feel a touch soft), 14T, and quick action throttle. 177rwhp, 100ftlbs torque, 163kg. Open the throttle carelessly, and be prepared....

  18. Right, I'm off to get a dyno.......

  19. Sheesh?

  20. I couldn afford to sue you toro lol I didn mean any disrespect...honest..honestly what does a 1198,1098,848 really put out at the rear wheel? does it really matter? I know id love to experience owning a 1098r just for the seat of the pants raw power. but, if I wanted a bike I could ride fast/smoothly then the 848 would be right up there.but I love a bike I feel im fighting and that's why most of my bikes have been big twins.
