748 Valve Cover 748r Exhaust

Discussion in '748 / 916 / 996 / 998' started by Jakepeewee, Aug 17, 2020.

  1. Hi there

I am installing 748R heads on my 851 and noticed the valve cover exhaust side has different dimensions than the one on my 851. So I need to source two of those valve covers.

Do you know if all 748's (and perhaps 916/996?) have these valve covers I am looking for or is it limited to just the 748R? Any info on this would be appreciated, would help me a lot when searching for these parts.

    Regards,
    Jacco

  2. So your new 748R heads don't have covers? I guess you've measured new compression ratio with the 'smaller' heads

  3. Sorry Martin, I don't get what you're saying.
I did measure compression ratio, but don't know what has this to do with the valve cover. Perhaps I am not using the right word for what I am looking for. I think it's called the inspection cover? Does that make sense?

  4. Jake, later 748R inspection covers from 01 were common to 996, 996SPS, later style 748E and S and ST4s. How old are your heads? (Part number would be useful for a proper match)

Earlier ones were common to most 916s (not SP/SPS) and nearly all 748s

  5. I probably have a new one. But it’s not exactly clear by me which one you need. See pic of the part I have. Cheers

  6. On my MY00 748R, the inspection cover is smaller than the 916 version.

If you are looking to buy the covers, I’d recommend buying new from Ducati as they are almost impossible to find second hand

  7. Thanks for your help guys! The inspection cover at the exhaust valve side is indeed smaller than the ones from my 888SP3. I am looking for two of those inspection (exhaust) covers: for the horizontal cilinder head (including the mounting for the oil cooler) and the one for the vertical cilinder.

Don't have the heads at my place so can't check the part no. but I know the cover for the 748R head needs to be smaller than for the 888 head

  8. Nick,
I need both covers for the exhaust valve side. Not sure if the covers in your picture have the right size. They need to be smaller than the ones for an 888 cilinder head. The 748R heads are not at my place but I can ask to measure the dimensions of the inspection covers (exhaust valve)

  9. Ducati p/n 24010151AA EXAUST VALVE COVER (HORIZONTAL) it’s #20 in the picture. Cheers.

  10. I've got a NOS never fitted front exhaust one and a 2nd hand one in good condition 9/10 for the rear head that I'd sell for a fair price.
Ping me a PM if you're interested chap.

  11. If you need the one I mentioned above. I have it laying here. New original Ducati part.

  12. Steve, Nick,
Somebody (dutch internet shop) is already checking their stock for me. If they don't have the parts I'll contact Steve (pm) since I need both covers.

Thanks for your help, really appreciated!

    Regards,
    Jacco

  13. Hi Nick,
If you're circled part is suitable for the testa bassa head I'd be interested as I broke a fixing lug off mine

  14. You can by them new mate. Ducati parts online might have them but you’ll pay for it. Let me know it’s eating dust over here some where

  15. A broken lug is often the case, I know. You mean by testa bassa, testastretta? What model mate?

    cheers Nick

  16. Hi Nick, not testastretta, it's the lowered exhaust cam on the desmoquattro as fitted to ST4 and some 748's from your picture it looks correct for those heads as you have the 5 bolt side covers? Cheers

  17. That will fit. But first wait for jackpeewee if he needs it

    Cheers

  18. No problem, I'm happy with 2nd dibs :D:upyeah:

  19. Harry,
Sorry mate, but I do need the horizontal one from Nick.

The webshop I contacted had just a used vertical one, so now the horizontal one from Nick will complete the set.

    Nick,
I will send you a pm, ok?

    regards,
    Jacco
