St2 Seat Height Woes

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by bruno22rf, Aug 23, 2020.

  1. Having the unenviable ability to look an Umpa Lumpa in the eye I need a way of lowering the seat height on my ST2 - had problems before with a 996 that actually put me in A&E with swollen undercarriage due to being on tippy toe for a long time in traffic, so now facing a similar problem on the ST2 - surely somebody out in Ducatiland has come across this before?

  2. Cant remember if st2 has a tie rod or hoop on the rear by the shock?

  3. Looks like a rod with a couple of large "eyebolts" with a nut on each.

  4. Pretty sure that’s a ride height rod, so should be able to lower unless it’s already full down. Take a pic

  6. I lowered my ST2 with the tie rod adjustment. Be careful though as the eye ends tend to corrode into the alloy rod. Just loosen the eye end lock nuts and then turn the rod and watch the seat go down.

  7. You can buy via eBay a rod with more adjustment and also get the seat shaved and recovered - little lady had the 848 & 959 lowered - need to lower the yoke on the forks as well to ensure it still tips in ok

  8. Remember to lower the front a bit too if you are lowering mechanically and not just in the seat.

  9. Very little scope for lowering the forks - might get 5mm but then the handlebar mounts will foul the fork tops - the tie rod is in it's shortest possible configuration so would lengthening it lower the seat height ? Cannot find anything on Ebay that mentions the ST2. Many thanks for suggestions so far.

  10. No, it’s ride height so longer equals higher. You could wind the pre load down or fit softer spring but that may have a very negative affect of]n ride ability if you like cracking on. Have you set the rider sag for the bike?

Sounding like custom seat. I have a 27 in seam and never had an issue on the st2 so am struggling to imagine how it’s too high tbh. My 5’ wife has longer legs than me lol

  11. No idea what affect it would have but you could try a shorter tie bar? Depends how much you need to go

  12. I think the adjustable from the 748 should fit and depends how much you lower 5mm on yoke may be enough - lower 848 streetfighter and 959 for the little lady.
Remember you will need to shorten the stand as well
174267533098 That’s the item no on eBay - worth a try

  13. You can buy an ebay rod for the 848, I had one, but never seen one for an ST2 which is much longer.

  14. That is far too short for the ST2.

  15. I'd expect the rods to be universal even if the rose joints aren't. The 1098 was adjustable, the 848 not. Many replace the 848 one for a 1098. If OP could find a cheap one, worth trying it out.

And agree with Bretski: 5mm on the front is actually a decent amount.

  16. Also the ST2 is just different, I'd be leaving stand as his: it has a centre stand if worried

  17. No the 848 one is around 8 inches long and the ST2 one is about 14+ inches long. The ST2 ones corrode and break when people try to adjust them so are rocking horse manure secondhand.

  18. a pair of Daytona M Stars might be a better option depending on how much you need to gain!

  19. Never looked at mine so didn't realise the tie rod was that long on an ST.

What about a hollow bar of similar strength threaded at each end for rose joints but a bit shorter than standard? That could work

  20. Was thinking the same or a billet tube of alloy threaded.
