Yesterday on a ride out my own on my 695 Monster, I had decided to make a u turn in the road to go in a different direction, but a car was approaching from my left so I decided to wait until it had passed, I braked while the bars were on full right lock, and over we went! I managed to hold the bike off the ground for a few seconds, but had to let it drop as it was too heavy to hold any longer, the only damage done was a bent front brake lever, and my pride, luckily the car driver helped me pick it up again, and I completed my trip without further incident, but lesson learnt, Ducati’s don’t have much steering lock, and don’t use the front brake when on full lock. It still annoys me though.
Glad to hear you only bent your front brake lever, i have a 900ss ie and the turning circle on that is more of an orbit, the main thing your ok and pride well we have all dented that at some point.
I never u turn in the road any more. I use junctions or get off and push. Learned my lesson too many times
I remember the first time i attempted to turn the 916 round in a carpark, nearly binned it,so the rule is do a Rossi........ have a leg out just incase it goes tits.
Similar thing happened to me recently pulling away from parking spot at Squire's...no front brake but a bit of lean, right hand lock, bike cut out. There was no way it was going down though. And I pulled a leg muscle keeping it up
I would do a 90 point turn with my feet I could just about turn right never mind a U turn Ok I had to relearn my road position that helped
Unfortunately I didn't have the strength to pull it back to upright,I had to let it go as gently as possible,
Ducati riding, school-boy error I'd have kept quiet too & hope no videos emerge ! In fairness there can't be a Ducati rider, past or present, who hasn't succumbed to this design flaw
Oh no.... No way can you drop a bike in front of a load of bikers....... I suffer from a fear of leaving a bike pub car park and chucking it in front of gurning piss takers...... I wonder if there's a name for it..... Like fear of spiders... Arachnophobia.... Etc
I also think medals etc should be given to those guys who on riding away from a bike meet.. pull bloody great big 200yd wheelies....... Dead jealous..... I mean.... That's showing real bravery.....
Done the same thing about 2 days into ownership I went to take a tight right hand turn saw the gravel and panicked, hit the front brake and over she tipped! I managed to keep her from hitting the floor but fucked my finger up some how in the process and it’s still not right that’s about 4 months ago! NO Witnesses
