Looking For Some Carb Advise - Coating

Discussion in 'Supersport (1974-2007)' started by Alex Elle, Aug 30, 2020.

  1. Hi Folks,
I managed to clean the coating of some of the carb parts, i.e choke link & bracket accelerator bracket... See below:

Any recommendations how to restore, or what to apply to protect?

Btw I used citric acid, while I was restoring the fuel tank. Was a bit to heavy for the metal parts of the picture...:sob::triumph:

    Thanks
    Alex

  2. Get the steel parts zinc plated and the ally parts anodised. Otherwise good etch primer and paint....?

  3. I did all mine with a kit. Depending where you are based, happy to have you come by and take a go with the kit yourself.

  4. Wow impressive result :upyeah:
Is this yellow chromate or cadmium ?
    Where abouts are you based?

    Cheers
    Alex

  5. Cadmium = heavy metal = banned ages ago!
Home kits sure look like they work well:upyeah:

  6. Yes, now only permitted for aerospace or military where there is no practical alternative.

Yellow passivated zinc coating is a fairly similar appearance, though without the green tinge of cadmium.
