I just had a set set of PR5s fitted and used the Michelin offer of a free set of TPMs. On fitting them I noticed that the large plastic head mounted on the 90deg valve stem would foul on the brake caliper on the front wheel. Glad I noticed that before wheeling the bike! The rear valve stem is vertical and with the TPM installed it looked OK to miss the caliper. Oh foolish me! I didn't actually check the clearance......................... This morning I was off on a ride out and pushed the bike out of my garage. A loud hissing sound told me I'd f####d up and sure enough the rear valve stem was snapped clean off, the culprit being the plastic TPM sensor. So be aware, the TPMs don't fit, take the £30 cash back instead. I need to get it fixed before next week as I'm off on the bike to Scotland on Tuesday. In common with many on here the rear wheel nut refused to budge with a long breaker bar. So I am now waiting on a Clarke CEW1000 impact wrench (as recommended by this forum, £65 Ebay) to arrive Wednesday/Thursday so I can get the wheel to the tyre shop. It's turned out to be an expensive exercise.
I have the Michelin TPMS on my 1260 and really like them. The front rim needs to have the 90deg valve rotated to about 45deg and a 90deg valve fitted to the rear rim, had that done at a tyre change foc. I have found that mine reads 2 PSI less than a correctly calibrated tyre pressure gauge but once you know its all fine. They caught a slowly deflating front before I knew about it on a ride so very happy with the system and way cheaper than the Ducati TPMS!
Interesting. Maybe I'll get a 90deg fitted to the rear as you suggest and keep the TPMs for now. Thanks for that.
Yes, Michelin offer with a set of tyres. The TPMs or £30 cash back. The offer was extended to cover August it may still be valid in September.
Uncle P', I feel your pain and how I wish you'd posted up a query about this when you were thinking about them, as I could have helped you out! I looked into these around 12 months ago and discovered, before fitting them, that they wouldn't work without impacting the front and rear calipers, unless as has been clarified above, you fitted a 90 degree valve on the rear wheel and the front, assuming it is also a 90 degree valve, either rotated around 45 degrees, or replaced with an upright valve. I rejected them before attempting to fit, as it was likely to be a while before I had new tyres fitted. Sorry to hear of your dilemma and I hope you get it sorted in time for the Scotland trip.
Now dont take this as gospel but.....theres something ringing a bell with me about the hole in the wheel being smaller than normal, thus needing the OE valves from ducati...I know they fit with an insert on one side and the valve stem on the other, and a normal valve doesnt fit....maybe...perhaps, or I could be wrong...
