I doubt that this one will still be available when I am in a position to buy, but that has been useful. I'll have to wait and see what's about when I get a settlement. As I don't want to spend more than 8k (and therefore eat into essential motorbike money) I've had to ignore family "advice" and buy electric. They are just too expensive for a car sitting around doing nothing most days. I am contemplating buying nothing and making it somebody else's problem. Just stick to motorbikes, train, and taxis.
Oh yeah, remember I was wittering on about buying an electric bicycle? Well, my physio is interested in getting me out and about, and she is thinking of recommending that I have one under the rehab code! Normally, if she says that I should have something, then I'm bought it. So, I may be getting a free electric bicycle under the rehab code. I just have to prove that I can get on one but I am well up for it! No worrying about this driving licence situation and I'm off! The Ducati one is a bit mountain bike orientated and expensive. So, probably not a Ducati!
mighty fine thanks perhaps he and your grand daughter could hook up one day in the future and maybe have a future ?
Free................ i'm missing my ex e-bike got a old Saracen MTB now not the same. What do i have go through to get a Free one ? Hang on you've been banged about a bit, scrub round that last question bud. Good luck obtaining one they are fab.
Wife got a 19 plate Fabia 3 months ago (1.0 petrol) and loves it, but we've had Skodas since 2005 when we realised the marque was winning multiple "Car of the Year" awards, and all the taxi drivers were swapping their Avencis for Octavias. Must be on our 8th now - I had 3 Octavias as company cars and they were bomb-proof, covering over 100k before being changed. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend.
Never had one, but for info they made the main bearing for the millennium wheel. and that has as of yet had no problems.
I would definitely not recommend getting the bashes that I did for a bike - even a Ducati electric bike! I'm told (frequently) that not all insurance companies are signed up to the rehab code. If they are not then it is TS until you get the insurance pay out, which could be many, many years. Although Hastings are still denying any liability they are signed up to the code and so I may be able to get an electric bike out of the barstewards, If they were not signed up to the code, then most of the stuff that I have got would of had to be paid for by me, first. There is no way that I could afford all the private physio sessions that have done me a load of good. I don't see the bills but God knows what they charge... Lynsay travels about 30 miles to see me and charges travelling time on top. I don't think she does it because she fancies me!!!
The bad Skoda rep is from their post war ownership but the Czechoslovakian state up to the early 90's when VW bought them over. Remember that Skoda is one of the oldest manufacturers of cars in the World, pre-war they were up there with Rolls Royce as far as luxury and reputation went. Then Old Adolf took them over and they were turning out weapons for his war effort, up to and including his tanks, which (end user overlooked) were not half bad; so it is a company with a proper history. I bought a new Skoda Superb a few years ago, its a 67 plate, 2l deisel, quite high spec, . It is a great car, and I used to sell cars so I know the market. It has never missed a beat, its fairly economical, looks good, reliable, cheap to service, beautiful leather interior, full climate control, nice entertainment system, a boot you could use as a hearse and a 5 star Euro encap rating. What's not to like? All for less than £22k new. ten grand less than the Audi A6/vw Passat which is essentially the same car. I am sure you could source one sub 10 grand that would serve your needs and last an age, and still have a good residual value. I probably won't buy a new car again but if I did I would not hesitate to buy another. I wanted to buy a yeti 4x4 but they have such a good reputation I couldn't find one! Nuff said.
My 2004 1.9tdi Octavia Laurin&Klement had 185k miles on the clocks, when I sold it...next year iirc it had 240k at the MOT. The only part ever required was a clutch at 170k. (obviously serviced every 10k miles) Most reliable car I ever owned. The 1.9pdtdi and 2.0cr are also good motors, but for short distance driving a petrol would be better option...however the Vw Group tsi engines have/had a lot of issues with, timing chain stretching/snapping, carbon deposits on the valves. (nearly all modern direct injection petrol engines have this issue). If not to fussed about looks I would strongly recomend a 1.8 hybrid Toyota Auris... £0 to tax.
Environmental benefits aside, I can’t see the advantage of paying £1000’s more for a car that will save you a couple of hundred pounds a year on VED.
8k budget as the OP limit should buy a 12 plate hybrid. I have a good mate, he makes his living by servicing TSI & Prince (PSA/BMW) engines, I would certainly stay away from these, especially if driving short distances.
Not a lot wrong with the Toyota’s for the money - large part of the BMW knowledge of hybrid tech comes from Toyota anyway
I would buy electric if prices were not mad but never a hybrid. Dunno if Bristol ever imposed their car ban which did include hybrids, but they may of been too busy inspecting each others' navel. I would save money and just buy a cheapo petrol car. If I wanted to go into Bristol or London, then I would just use the car to take me to my nearest station and then go by train. The train may be a stinking, polluting diesel, but it's not my problem.
