Yep, the fastest I saw on the videos I took with a clear lap was a 1’50 - the final session felt better as I adjusted the shifter lever again which made the quickshifter work. The bloody immobiliser kicked in again just as the session was about to start and I moved the wiring around the ignition switch which seemed to calm it down so I got out for the last 15 minutes - was the best session of the day in terms of pace but the camera went flat so I didn’t get a chance to see the timings! I feel until I can consistently see 1’45’s I should stay where I am.
So the rider who fell off his bike in front of you, must have made a conscious decision to disconnect the switch that kills the engine if you select a gear with the side stand down. That was very unlucky. Andy
I did have that conversation as we both sat in the back of the same ambulance getting checked over. They had to sit us apart with a paramedic between us as I wasn't best pleased.
You’d be surprised. When we were lined up waiting to go out at Ducati day Donington. A guy fell off his bike I shit you not. Daft mistakes happen. Err, guilty
Yes, guy in yellow got hit from behind. Rider can be seen engaging a gear and jumping forward into the rear wheel of the bike in front. Duff clutch or just clumsiness ? Andy
Look closely at the no limits guy in the middle - he gets his phone out and then gestures for everyone to put their thumbs up! The guy just let go of his clutch without thinking and ran into the bike in front - poor rider was clutching his balls for a while after!
It’s inevitable really - lots of knackered and adrenaline filled people, overheating in leathers, surrounded by noise, so many distractions. What we really need is a nice quiet air conditioned box to sit in and take on fluids while the pit crew preps the bike for the next session! I would say a brolly dolly as well but I would definitely run into the back of the guy in front then - or just drop the bike and chase her..... Anyone else notice the older you get the more like Benny Hill you become?
Amateurs at crashing in pit lane...watch this FPMSL (spin to about 13 min if you dont want to watch the rest...)
Well Silverstone was an interesting day for many reasons but there was a bike specific one that’s relevant to this thread! I went out for a session with an instructor on a stock 959 and had the chance to pit the bikes against each other! Now obviously the instructor is a substantially better rider and knows the circuit like the back of his hand so despite the handicap of a stock bike with road tyres he could have left me at any moment. What did become apparent was that despite him often getting better corner exits and gaining ground I could catch him on the straights quite easily. He had gauged this while following me and had been reeling me back in under braking (i’m braking too early and too hard at the end of the fast straights) so he was flat out head down when he was leading - but I could still catch him. The bike felt faster than stock but it’s good to get confirmation that all of the mods have had an effect!
FastBikes borrowed my 899 some years back to test it against a modded one around Silverstone. Mine was stock with Termi's and UpMap and the modded one had Wheels, Lightened generator, Full Austin exhaust, and some other lightening like rear subframe, was probably 10KG lighter. They told me the difference was a a few seconds just with the weight gone and letting the engine spin up so much quicker.
I can well believe it - I think in the right hands mine would be much quicker than with me onboard! I think it’s compensating for my lack of experience and has saved me from some mistakes on a number of occasions. I moved my road bike the other day and just standing it up and moving it around you can feel the extra weight - on track it just comes alive. Tell me more about this lightened generator?????
Interested re the lightened generator too. Bought an 1199 gen cover thinking it would be lighter than my o/e 899 one, it isn’t and it needs modifications to fit the 899. It’s now for sale if someone wants a spare 1199 generator cover. I’m at 185kg fully fuelled & in road trim. (Lights, mirrors, horn etc).
Lightened generator was a DP official accessory in 2013/14, soon removed as a option for some reason, hens teeth now, have not seen one come up for sale for years.
