M6 Externally Threaded Tube

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by Itsamonster, Sep 8, 2020.

  1. I’m after a uk scource for some M6 exterally threaded tube.
I’m trying to repair an LED indicator. My other half got off the bike and stepped Back into the n/s rear indicator, snapping the mounting tube. Must have been made of cheese :worried:
I’ve seen a US or china scource, but not UK. Anybody seen any available?
    Thanks

  2. How long does it nee to be? Drill out a bit of threaded rod or a bolt?

  3. If you take the depth of thread and size of bore, that doesn't leave much material. It will always be prone to break.

  4. It has to be minimum 25mm long. I don’t have a pillar drill to do a true straight drilling on solid threaded bar. Good idea though.
Crap design, could probably have enough meat on indicator body to go m8 and be a bit stronger. Only 10mm or so goes into the indicator body. Replacement indicators have been discontinued.

  5. Easy enough on a lathe but on anything else it's going to be tricky to keep true. How about buying a 6 mm tube and running a die down the outside?

  6. Although the China option is pretty good if you aren't in a hurry. I use that platform a lot. Mainly for fake Lego. Never had any problems.

  7. Great idea on running a die down a tube.
I have no problem going down the china route, but could do with it sooner.

  8. Where does the die and tube come from...?

  9. M6 core diameter is 5mm so you get 1mm wall thickness. Pretty decent .

  10. Are you sure..with a 4mm hole?

  11. Very sure. All metric threads are easy to work out. It's diameter minus pitch gives you the core. Works for external and internal threads. Drill size for m6 is also 5mm

  12. Are you sure that a 5mm core depth would give a 1mm wall thickness with a 4mm bore?

  13. It's not difficult..

  14. He sent you a link to a tube with a 3mm bore.

  15. This is what I get..

  16. There is a option to a tube with 1.5 mm wall thickness on there

  17. He should've shown that option!

  18. Perhaps. Well I was referring to that option so we were both right
