I need some advice. I have a showroom condition 2006 model 749 mono posto and I want to convert it to a track bike. The catch is I want to be able to ride to and from the track on it so it still has to be road legal. I have another bike that I use on the road. The 749 will not be used on the road at any time. This really is a track day bike that needs to pass MOT. I've recently had a EVR CTS slipper clutch with organic plates, a translogic quickshifter, braided brake lines, a lithium battery, a fresh set of Perilli SuperCorsa SP V2 tyres fitted. The bike already has a termi silencer fitted. I figure I'll remove the OEM fairing and replace it with some cheap aftermarket fairing. I'll also add fork, swingarm and frame sliders, some engine casing covers, adjustable rear sets and hopefully a digital dash that has track telemetry. Am interested in any advice on make and model for any of the above. As a complete track day conversion novice I'm also after advice on what more I should do to make the bike perform better and what else I can do to reduce repair costs for when I inevitably drop it? Thanks in advance for any feedback.
I can confirm that they crash well. Mine has Speedymoto under fairing sliders and standard R&G spindle sliders. Nice rearsets can be obtained from tss in Czech Republic. Get some of @Jamie Clare ’s chain adjusters. I recommend Performance Friction PF95 pads.
Also, ditch the coffin brake and clutch reservoirs and fit Brembo remote pots further inboard on home made brackets.
Maybe daft question - why track a showroom condition bike if your sure your going to throw it down the road - sell it buy a scabby one one and convert with the money you’ve saved
It’s not a stupid question. I’ve had it since new but I’ve lost the spare and the red key and all the paperwork so despite being in showroom condition it’s worth near nothing. I also have a V4R so when it comes to riding on the road I take out the R and the 749 never gets used. So making it a track bike gives it a purpose.
Ok keys not a problem and showroom still worth a few quid and would of thought you could get a much better track based bike for the same money, only ask as little lady just bought a 749 and may do some road bike track days ( but she can’t reach the floor on much else )
Well the other thing is that I’m attached to it. In fact, I can’t bare to part with it. I was my first bike and I just have some sort of emotional attachment to it. So much so that I had it shipped over from Australia and I’ve spent more on it than it costs to restore it.
Tragic but true. I know I could buy a better track bike with less than half the money I’ve spent on the 749 but... ❤️❤️❤️
Perhaps but it seems like a lot of track mods are focused on making repairing the bike cheaper whereas there really doesn’t seem to be much focus on that for road only bikes.
True, but to many people on track seem to think crashing goes hand in hand with Being on track. It's not compulsory.
