It all started with a second hand ST2. Bought it as a cheap bike for some fun as it was a match (weight, power, etc) with the wifes BMW F800ST. Moved onto an 848 as I am not into sports bikes and that was great fun. Wife sold her 2007 F800ST as she preferred the 1997 ST2! The 848 was brilliant for the roads around here in the south of France, but after an hours ride it was enough. The new 939 Supersport came out and the 848 was swapped immediately. That was 3+ years ago. The SS was a great mile muncher capable of 12 hour riding days. Was not a great bike around town due to the heat it generated. Was a bit disappointed that the service indicator could not be reset except by a dealer who was miles away. The wife sold the ST2 and bought a new Monster 821 which has the same service indicator. Then, while in the UK last March, I had a heart attack with the triple bypass surgery afterwards. In July I moved back down to France with the girlfriend and a trailer with the Supersport and her Monster 821. This 821 is red and the wifes was black. Mostly recovered from the heart surgery, but find that with the medication I tend to get numbness in the hands and don't like vibration. So after a few hundred more miles on the SS, suffering the heat, I decided that it was time to change. I need something more upright with less pressure on the still healing sternum. A Multistrada 1260 was considered, but my 29" leg and the Ducati dealers still being in short supply, that idea was put to bed. I test rode a BMW R1250RS, the road version of the GS, and loved it. Smooth different seats available, a dealer 20 miles away, loads of toys, and comfortable for me. Looked around for a year old one and then decided that a new tax free one from BMW UK would do me. The bike is ordered in black. Will miss the very beautiful red Supersport.
Enjoy it, been on a few beemers. Got my winter f800gs hack & found them very capable but totally bland.
You must do what suits you best Bob. I'm impressed that you are carrying on biking after your medical issues. BMW R series are big beasts, and it is a bit surprising that you find one more manageable that a Ducati. Still, that is entirely for you and I wish you the very best with it. Ride smoothly!
Good luck with the new steed Bob. I hate myself for saying it but I’m getting rather fond of my GSA. To actually ride in relevant comfort has helped me get back to enjoying riding again. Still wouldn’t say no to the SFV4 though.....
Hey look, I still live in the Dordogne and will be here when brexit and covid is gone. I will help any biker find somewhere to stay or show them around whatever bike they ride. I still have the bike trailer should anyone need help.
I’m not surprised you had an MI with a wife and GF! I also had an MI , the drugs are shit for a few months, at 6 month review, with good fitness and results etc I told the docs I’m stopping the mind numbing drugs and only carrying on with statins and aspirin. Stopped the aspirin as I had internal bleeding issues from it with a broken leg. Then I bought a multi and I have a 29 inch leg. I just need a GF to be like you lol. All of this is just to say that god willing you will be fine, and riding strength will return, I couldn’t lift a kettle when I got home. Now it’s history, long forgotten and I’m overdue a visit to my house near Figeac.

What might that be? Since the op I have not seen a healthcare person at all. I only have 3 drugs to take so that is not a problem. The Sternum is still sore and I get very tired at the moment.
