1260 Side Stand

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by 6274rico, Sep 18, 2020.

  1. hi all .After a recent trip I noticed that .When the bike is fully loaded and placed on the side stand it seems to lean over a lot further than without any luggage on.
Iv checked the side stand .all bolts and fixtures are tight the stand itself has no damage or defects. Feels a little bit of play in it but nothing excessive.
Perhaps its just me but anyone else think this way?
    Cheers

  2. I don't know about it leaning further with luggage on, but I have found the lean to be more than necessary and luggage alters the centre of gravity. In fact on a trip in France last year one of us, Chris, with a fully laden bike, put it on the side stand on a slight slope and the whole bike, with him on it, pivoted up on the side stand and down it all went.
I've countered that with a side stand foot pad. It adds maybe a centimeter to the reach but it results in noticeably less lean and more stability. Mine was an ebay cheapie and I had to grind it a little to fit the foot profile, but you can get them from the big companies like Touratech for a premium.

  3. Not sure about the 1260 but on my 1200, the location of the side stand pivot point causes the suspension to unload when you deploy the side stand so the bike stands taller and looks like the leaning tower of Pisa when fully loaded. A big word of CAUTION, on the day I left for Spain last year, I struggled to get my right heel over the pillion seat with the 70 litre panniers fitted and I ended up pulling the bike over on top of me. IME, the bike can be unstable on the side stand. Andy

  4. I got one of those big shoe type things to put on the foot of the stand on my Multi 1200s.
It leans over too far and the shoe just brings it a little more upright.

  5. I can fully see there is a problem now and its not just me.
Thank you for the tips and heads up

  6. Have noticed this too, luckily no falling over yet. Good tip on the bigger foot and this giving a touch more lift.

  7. I think there was a recall on the 1260 sidestand wasn't there?

  8. I also use a foot extender - also I think there was a recall on the side stand some time ago? I seem to remember having mine swapped out due to a faulty batch? Could be wrong about this.

  9. I suppose you use more preload when fully loaded, this will always lean the bike MORE. The luggage, will lean it LESS. when on the side stand the bike will always sit a bit higher than it is straight, this is normal because the weight on the side stand is substantially subtracted from the rear spring work. It is all about SAG setup.

  10. Yeah there is

Had mine done, but no improvement to lean angle

Think it was just a faulty welded batch from factory they replaced

  11. There's definitely a recall on the side stands. I had it replaced. No change in lean angle.

  12. The side stand pad is a must have as far as I'm concerned.
