I can't find a reference to the commercial gas thing and it may well of been London, or Ealing specific. I know that our property that is currently let to a gym, so lots of showering, had to have electric heating and hot water. A permanent 3 kw electric water heater should have its own connection to the fuse board. Yes, you could wire it into the ring main but you would stand a very real risk of blowing the switchboard fuse if other stuff was being demanded of the ring main at the same time - like room heaters, irons, aircon units,etc, etc. My device has so little power (8 units now for the whole house) that if that is the same as a 3kw instant heater running a bath and 5 showers then that is pretty unlikely. I am now up to about £2 since Wednesday and if I was just wasting energy by using this heater then I'll take that. Because it uses so little power it can be just plugged in to a socket. What the guys did to make the job neat and not use up one of my sockets was to take a spur off the double socket for my washing machine and tumble dryer, next to it. I guess that they also wanted it permanently wired in in case I was a Watchdog nutter who would leave it unplugged and then complain to anybody that listened. The fact that it will work after a fortnight of being disconnected could just add to the dissatisfaction and more complaints could be made The only people that I need to inform is my energy company to tell them that the gas is capped off and I no longer need gas. Interesting that his technology seems to rankle so many. I've got it neatly installed and guaranteed for 10 years. I've dumped gas and I could run a bath or shower now, if there was a power cut. Knowing that it seems to irritate so many traditional gas fitters jus adds to my pleasure! Jeez. It even seems to upset some people regarding how much money the company make! I don't GAF as I, as a customer, am perfectly happy with the installation and operation. And I take it that you believe desmodromic valve actuation is also a con. Everybody uses valve springs and so why can't Ducati? The fools.
@Akorenika, actually we do have LED bulbs in the kitchen, but we used to have the old fashioned 50w ones. I was just using them as an example. Unfortunately our LED ones have to be dimmable in that part if the kitchen* so the buggers cost a damn sight more than £1 . *we have another 11 in other parts of the kitchen, plus under cupboard lighting and pelmet lighting - big kitchen but all LED. ps - our leccy useage is typically €4/day including the std chg & Govts levy & vat so around 18 units/day.
I used to work with an electrical engineer who knew a 'guy' who was ex hydro electric (obviously a few years ago) who would come round your gaff if you lived in the sticks and 'hot spike' (is that the term?) your supply before the meter and install an electric boiler in yout garage or outhouse, he reckoned the company would never suss as the meters were so inaccurate they couldn't balance the load... We move to often to take part shame
Was that in the UK... risky here... 1000Amp street fuse and 240VAC or 600V across three phases (415 RMS). Where it's 110Vac its more common.
