I recently bought a 998 that's a bit of a bitsa -- one thing it has is 999 forks. The fork seals are both leaking, and I need to re-spring it to my weight anyway. Can anyone take a butcher's and see if they recognize what year/model fork they are? Want to make sure I get the right parts for it. Let me know if I need to get any more pics.

I'm an Aussie living in the U.S., so not in the U.K. unfortunately. I've always wanted to learn how to do basic fork maintenance, so maybe this is my time to try? The previous owner gave me a new set of seals for them. Where can I look up what part number I need for bushings and springs for my weight? Might as well look up fork oil weight too, while I'm at it...

fwiw DIY changing fluid and springs & seals isnt too hard, removing and fitting bushes and taking the cartridge out and the valves apart ideally needs special tools to be done right without trashing the fork. imho if you can send them to an ohlins specialist , they will do a better job
Great, thanks! Just downloaded the 999 stuff. There is an Ohlins specialist about 45m away from me; he does the road racing (circuit racing for you blokes) scene so he's very well-known. But, I'd like to know how to do the basics myself. The PO did give me the tool needed to ram the new seals on, but I'd still need the rest of the tools. Apologies -- I misread his post and thought that applies to 999S bikes only, and that my forks are off a vanilla 999.
this is service manual for the aftermarket R&T forks on my bikes. your fork will be put together in a similar fashion and likely share parts . but do look at the number stamped on the forks and check this with the ohlins supplier when you order the parts
heres a version of the manual for the older FG43 R&T fork design. it might be closer to the inards of yours

Does your bike have the standard 998 spindle and speedo drive..? Looks like your running the standard 998 wheel.. looking at a set of these for my 996 and wondering if it’s a easy job to fit.. also seen folk saying you may need 5mm spacers for the discs.. Any advise would be handy.
Honestly mate I really don't know how it's setup. If you want me to take photos or measure anything, just shout. But you'd need an expert to chime in with how it actually works..!
