I've just wrapped up the Ohlins steering damper ready for posting today or tomorrow (bubble wrap inside as well for added protection) but which post carrier should i use UPS or P.O and do i pay extra for the true replacement value if lost or damaged, also the weather looks very inviting for a quickie late morning as i missed out yesterday.
I obviously have used them before because my understanding is that they don't throw the packages around like the others companies, with brown uniforms / nicely painted vans and surely taking responsibility for the said items etc you can't go wrong in life or i'm being naive again.
UPS are the only service I have never had an issue with, but I think it's all down to the individual driver at the end of the day. At work they have issues, but you will get that with all services. All my USA imports are shipped UPS. My UPS delivery driver gave me his mobile number and rings me when he's coming, will drop off at a friends house if I'm not in and trusts me to pay import duties after he's dropped. Check the standard insurance whoever you use - Royal Mail Special Delivery I think is up to £250 and next day before 1pm so good value if under a kilo. I have used this a lot too with no issues.
These things are useful and may help in the event of a claim if there's damage. Other makes are available...
I was due a delivery by UPS last Wednesday. At 2pm I got an email to say it had been delivered. I checked..........it hadn't. I tried to contact UPS to find out more but I would have had more luck trying to get in touch with the pope! To cut a long story short on Thursday around 1pm I got a text from the people that the parcel had been delivered to (my mobile number was on the delivery label). The parcel had been delivered to a completely different address (different post code) that was half a mile away. It hadn't even been delivered to their door but had been left at the the gate at the bottom of their drive (approx 20m from the house). It had been left overnight because the homeowners knew nothing about it until they went out the following day. It had rained all the previous night and so the packaging was ruined. Thankfully the goods inside were in a plastic bag and so were OK. No thanks to UPS.
I went to the Bank this morning and the female cashier gave me this. I smiled at her, winked and said "I'll need a much bigger one than this Miss" "It's for your finger when you count your money at the ATM Sir" came the reply.
Did an enhanced rider scheme today DVSA approved course. £185 well spent, riding flows better and improved cornering. Got soaked in the last hour, but added a different dynamic to the ride. Highly recommended, knocks the rough edges of your riding. IAM next year.
Lovely many thanks,my real concerns would be with the overall value as i can only see secondhand steering dampers for around the £400 mark on ebay.
I like the idea, but then some fool in the firm would just throw it around for a laugh with a please look after my goods sticker attached.
Finished off the service (belts, valve clearances, clutch and all fluids ) and took the Scrambler for MOT.
Bent some tank mounting brackets for a bobber I'm building. Burnt my fingers too after heating the brackets to make them easier to bend in the press. The finished parts.
