1198 1098r V 1198s For A Fast Road Bike.

  1. Agreed!

  2. I've been looking on and off for a really nice 1198S for around a year, there haven't been many for sale. And dealers are pricing them around 1299 money. I'm not considering a 1098R for an investment, I'd want it for a road bike. Having said that I'd be quite disappointed if the arse fell out of it's value because I'd put another 5 or 6k miles on it.

  3. A lot of money for an extra 20 or so hp.

  5. The 1098R is not really about the numbers. I've ridden 200hp newer bikes, but they don't feel like the 1098R.

  6. I wouldn't want a 1098r for the road after riding 1098rs on track.

As a fast road bike, something sexy to look at and hold it's residuals, he would do well to look at 6R.
    Or have a 1198 motor in a 748R frame ;)

  7. So if you were buying privately today, what would you pay for a mint 1098R with 10k miles on it?

  8. Has it been trackbike for most of its life?

  11. The 1098R is a bloody awful road if you ask me. Never ridden an 1198 but can't imagine it's much better. But put them on a track.....:imp::heart_eyes:

  12. Mint with a rebuilt engine?

  13. ...but what a seller would let it go for, is a different story.

The R owners here will tell you 20k is fair...

  14. What's a track bike worth then...

  15. Yep. I know every minute of that bikes life. It's an absolute minter. Engine rebuilt recently. I'd have it back in a heartbeat if I knew where this Covid bollox was going.

RIP Glen Searle. Died last night. The guy that rebuilt the engine recently. Top bloke. Top builder.

  16. R buyers here is what I'm asking.....

  17. Whatever someone's willing to pay I guess. I always buy on condition. Quite often track bikes are religiously preened and maintained.

  18. Which means what ? Mine has been my track bike and I can count the number of times the revs have gone into the red and the traction has kicked in on one hand in the entire 4 years I have owned it. It got an oil and filter change after every 3 track days and the appropriate time based dealer service every 12 months. I know the previous owner also used the bike on track and he had it dealer serviced after every track day. Andy
