848 evo gearbox issue

Discussion in '848 / 1098 / 1198' started by redsail, Jun 2, 2013.

  1. A couple of times I've mis-shifted from 1st to 2nd and had the bike go into neutral, but found the bike would not go back in gear (slight buzzy grinding so I didn't force it). Had to release clutch and coast a second then retry which worked, but not fun.

Today I stopped at a garage to refuel slipped bike out of gear from 1st and neutral light wouldn't come on. Still at the pump had a hard time finding any gear again, rolled the bike forward and finally got it in which was a relief. Slipping into neutral and again no light - repeat, nada. There was no 'notch' where you usually feel neutral should be. Pulled off and it has been ok for the rest of the ride, but I'm a bit concerned. Should I take it back to dealer?

  2. I would. Does the lever have a nice, precise movement, or does it feel a bit 'flappy'?

  3. I don't think it feels loose. It's pretty heavy though.

Do you know if factory warranties can be dealt with at a dealer other than the one the bike was bought from?

  4. yes they can.....

  5. Wasn't you who run on at the Melbourne loop ,after getting a neutral, last week, standing me up, was it?

  6. Yep, take it back, could be something really simple like gear lever adjustment

  7. Deffo not me final_edition

Thanks all. Will take it back for a check up, still having some brake shudder issues too so they can see to that as well.

  8. You seem to be having a lot of issues with your bikes performance and riding it.

Yet there's one common denominator.

  9. El Toro, I'm well aware what the weakest link is beleive me. And I have a few issues, not lots. I've posted questions about riding skill as well so I'm hardly just blaming the bike. I've got less than 2 months warranty left so I want to make sure that if there is a problem I get it back in in time - hence the glut of posts (I'm riding almost every day).

I have another bike and don't have any of the issues I have with the 848... but then again the 848 is a completely different bike requiring much more skill.

Re the shifting thing, I had forgotten the trick of preloading the shifter before changing, up to 2nd seems to be a bit smoother anyway but it doesn't help the neutral thing.

  10. Ugh. That reads more defensive than I menat to be. Having a bit of shit day...

  11. I think you're thinking too much about this bike. Just ride it as you would your other bike. It'll all come together, believe me.

  12. Maybe so. Maybe so.

  13. Your lucky if you find a neutral ;-)
When you don't want one they are easy

  14. I've read about those infamous neutrals ducbird. Thankfully not found the one between 5th and 6th, probalby because I rarely use them! Worried I might have damaged the gearbox by mis shifting or just being a bit ham-footed.

  15. Get it checked while in warranty and that way you will know if all is ok and one less thing to think about
