Removing Lambda Bungs

Discussion in 'Monster' started by bradders, Oct 20, 2020.

  1. Hi the bungs in the standard S4 system seem to be round and not Allen key. I haven’t directed anything in there, yet....

Are they Allen key and can they be removed?

    If not what the point?!

  2. Why do you want to remove them? If no lambda is fitted or required just leave well alone.
If you do need to remove them and there is no means of using a spanner or key.
If you can get on the bung, use a Stilson pipe wrench and a bit of localised heat.

  3. I want to see if I can switch one out from the standard pipe to the new decat one I’ve bought for now so I can fit it

  4. You will be better off just buying a plug, rather than risk damaging the exhaust system.

  5. Yeah, managed to get a 5 into the bung by tapping with rubber mallet but felt it would round before moving. I’ll fit the system and get one later. I’m just struggling to find the right size as the m18 looks too large, I think that is for the lambda sense or blaming rather than the small hole the system also has. Measured across 8.6mm iirc

  6. Sounds like it may be a 10mm thread, worth trying an M10 screw, don’t force it it could be a fine thread.

  7. Bolt the size of a caliper fitted but thread wrong. Any idea what size that is?!

  8. Are you referring to the takeoff points for gas analysing? If so a 1/4" BSP blanking plug should fit.

  9. There are two, one that has the probe and another which has a bolt in it. It’s the bolt one.

  10. As Chris said, it sounds like they’re the tap off points for exhaust analysis. They’re bsp thread. 5mm Allen key to remove, but if they’ve been in a while, or fitted dry, then a drill is usually required and tap out to clean the thread. If you need a new one, I’d buy one as it sounds like you’re in for some grief ;)

  11. Can’t find anything local. Will this do the job?

  12. Looks ideal to me. At that price it's probably worth taking a risk on it being OK?
