I've just got back from a run on my SS and have to face facts. My busted wrist from 2011 will never recover enough to make it comfortable enough to ride over a distance. Any suggestions about what I might try instead? I need summat that'll commute me 20 miles each way on country roads. And get slogged 250 when ever I feel like it. Don't want another BMW. Could live with a fazer 600 but would probably die of boredom. Guzzi v7 maybe? monster?
Fazer 1000 (gen 1) with higher Renthal bars. Get it 'Ivanised' and you'll be kicking 'Blades arses too.
You gried bar risers or, dare I say, streetfighter type set up? If you like the bike it may be worth a little messing about
I did consider fightering it, drop the fairing, bung a big old headlight on there, will monster yokes fit so I get a better turning circle?
You'll hate a Fazer, they're the bike equivalent of a Toyota Corolla. If you like the SS then I'd look at Ducati Monster, ST2/3/4, any Guzzi or a KTM. When was the last time you rode an unfaired bike? It does make a huge difference to comfort when you're not in the mood.

Triumph Street Triple, they are fantastic. Revvy, grunty (for a little engine), sound great and are a riot to ride
Cheddar i had to give up my SS as my shoulder injuries won't allow for the ride position so..... I'm now the proud owner of M600 monster feels easier just sitting on her I'm yet to get out so will let you know how it feels
Thought the fazer might be a bit too ordinary. Haven't ridden unfaired for a while, so I thought v7 with a screen, considered a Triumph possibly an old thunderbird triple, st worth a look, not keen on the look of the multistrada, might have to try one.... Keep coming back to a monster.... Trouble with blog is, until I got the SS everything Had stopped breaking down, so it got a bit dull... Must have another crack at it...
Try a Diavel. Seriously. Take one out for a decent scoot, and then tell me you didn't have loads of fun.
It's true that you don't see much of it when riding it. And it does look a bit weird (although the red and white ones looks pretty cool). But it's a monumental hoot to ride. Put it this way, I didn't regret it when I got off, whereas...
Monster yokes have shorter offset by about 3mm, the fork legs might contact the frame on lock, plus steering will be slower. I have a set if you want to experiment. I put bars on my streetfightered SSie by using a SS carby yoke drilled and fitted with pit bike bar risers.
I had a similar dilemma and had to sell my 900ss and ended up getting an 1100 Monster . None of the Triumphs float my boat , likewise with anything Japanese. I have just sold the Monster but I`m sure you will find it much more comfortable and still a lot of fun to ride. With hindsight I might have been better off with the 796 instead of the 1100 but I just loved the torque too much. Maybe try the Diavel as Glid says, got to be worth a go.
I like it plus I dont find the buffering an issue unless your over 100 on a motorway for a long time I did change my bars to take the pressure off my shoulders, certainly no pressure on the wrists - Deffo worth taking for a test spin along with Monster and hyper maybe
Well it's a radical idea. I have to say the bike I've had most fun on apart from the SS was a completely ridiculous buell Ulysses. Totally mental. I just had feeling that it would be ridiculously expensive to run and hellish difficult to get parts for....
