  1. I’d go back even further. To 2016 in fact. :p

  2. Has Damo been posting since 2016? Clearly he’s an endurance legend. ;)

  5. All good thanks @portboy.

  6. I believe so too, at least a large proportion are. Unfortunately much of this is driven by fear, and I fully understand that whether it's due to age or personal health circumstances, I don't judge anyone for being concerned about their life or the life of a loved one. It's the media and in some part government that's driving fear across the country and it's just too much.

There's a huge lack of honesty from all main media outlets, and to an extent that's always been the case but this time they're ruining people's lives in the multiple thousands / millions.

  7. El T,

Is it worth combining this thread and the original one that started back in March? Might need a new title but I can see both threads running in the same direction

  8. Which one?

  9. This one, only if people think it's worth it

Aaachooo! The Panic, Panic, Panic Connedvirus Thread!

  10. @duke63 your call as it's your thread ;)

  11. This is not a criticism, just an observation.

You may well be right but I’m certainly not entrenched in my March viewpoint.

Surely it’s wiser to modify your opinion according to newly acquired information and there’s been a lot of that since March.

Having had a serious dose of Covid-19 I definitely look at it with a different perspective now. I got it from my wife who got it for free from a hospital operation. Although it was grim it wasn’t any worse for her than the flu we had over New Year. Having said that the New Year flu was the worst we’d had to that point in our lives.

My experience with Covid was worse than hers. In fact I was borderline getting in an ambulance. The only reason I didn’t call one was I thought I might not come back. Which was probably illogical.

So I have a bit of experience since March, the world has a lot.

What we should have learned since March is this Covid Genie is well and truly out of the bottle. It’s a fact.
IT IS NOT GOING BACK IN. Another fact.

Dealing with it via lockdowns doesn’t actually cure or prevent it or make it go away. It merely delays the inevitable. The lockdown in March was the easy decision, what is difficult is this period.

So what are we doing? What is the best thing to do?

It is pointless blaming the Government for this and that bla bla bla. It achieves nothing. No government can come out of this well. It is not any governments fault except possibly the Chinese.

The only opinion that I haven’t changed since March is that China as a whole needs to accept responsibility and modify the way it behaves. That is not racism it’s realism. They cannot carry on inflicting this kind of situation on the whole world due to their own negligence. Be it hygiene, culinary choices ( cut out the Bat & Pangolin etc.). Or at a government cover up level.

The Government of this country and other countries (irrespective of what party is in power) know perfectly well that we cannot carry on like this. They have no intention of carrying on like this. They know lockdowns won’t work. While trying to persuade the country to behave with more common sense, they’re trying to manage the situation so the hospitals don’t get overwhelmed at any one time.

There are only two ways out of this.

    1.Let it run its course.
    2.A vaccine.
The trouble with option two is: we don’t know how long that will work for if at all; or what the side effects will be.

That is what I’ve learnt since March.

  17. Currently in central London, and of course, everyone heard about the prospect of a new national lock down last night and then an hour ago word broke in the bar I'm in that they'll be an announcement at 4pm....now 5pm

Let me put it this way, these guys are almost in tears, it's just life ruining for them, most are already in a financial shit pit but this will tip them well over the edge.

Someone needs to be brave and say the uncomfortable truth. Lock downs can't keep happening to 'save lives' that cannot be saved.

  19. Was speaking yesterday with a work contact as I’m snowed with work for the moment, he works in exhibition stand supply and fix. His company is down to 5% of it’s annual turnover and have gone from 20 employees to 8 they won’t survive another lockdown.
