Hi all, I can only get my Monster back into neutral if I turn my engine off! I get it into first and it pulls off ok but then won’t change. I was told it had a new clutch prior to me buying it... is this likely to be gearbox related or clutch? Any suggestions welcome x
It's a clutch problem it's dragging there's a few reasons for this to happen, but it's definitely a clutch problem. Steve R
Learned today if you have a cable operated clutch, the adjuster on the lever bracket should not be used to shorten the span of the lever as this translates into not enough clutch plate separation resulting in finding neutral challenging. If the cable starts to get firm after about 15mm, try adjusting the bite point by screwing the adjuster out. Andy
The adjuster on the lever has 5 settings. I have tried moving it through all of them, could I have caused the issue?
I picked up a 2017 Supersport today and was given the advice about adjusting the clutch. It may be that your clutch lever is different, I don’t know. Can you post a picture of it ? Andy
You have an hydraulic clutch so lever adjustment for you isn’t the issue. A simple bleed of the clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder might clear the issue but it could also be the almost inevitable failure of the slave cylinder which is one of the most common problems across the whole Ducati range with hydraulic clutches. summoned by @Sev but would love to put my head in the sand on this one these days as you've hit on a really controversial one.,, might P.M. even as prefer this to setting off a Forum barny.
Probably a 15 minute job if you have new fluid, tubing to attach to the bleed nipple, catch bottle for the old fluid and spanner Andy
The bike is stored at the minute as I’m having lessons. Have it stored in my back garden so can’t even give it a good run
Hello me old China (I bet you have heard that before)...... This may or may not help, but my 750 SS neutral indicator switch at the back of the gearbox leaked badly, so when I removed it and added a new washer to try and seal it (which it did) I found that on tightening the switch too much was causing the gear lever to jam in neutral (luckily I found that out before I went out on the road). It needed a thicker washer to get the adjustment right which in the end was a perfect fix. AL
