The ignition switch on my st4 is almost done and is going to leave me stranded somewhere. There is an ignition bypass switch from corse dynamics which has 4 prongs while the stock one has 6. This bypass switch is usually put on race bikes. Has anybody had experience with this? Do I lose some of the electrical functions due to going from 6 to 4 prongs? Are there other options other than a used ignition switch from a junked st4 or a new switch from China? I like the idea of the bypass....and I do live in an area of BC where theft of the bike would be very remote. Thanks for your comments!!
The ST4 only uses 4 of the 6 terminals. For the bike to work you only have to connect the white and yellow/black wires. To get the pilot lamp and tail light working you will need to join the orange and yellow wires. Since there is a lighting switch you could join them permanently. I'm not familiar with the Corse Dynamics switch but you will probably lose the parking function.
Now you just don't get that kind of dedicated reply ( with tech detail ) on other forums , do you ? Actually , all credit goes to the man , the member , not to the forum .... ..... it's a point worth thinking about . .... just my 2 Chetrums worth ....
If anyone wants one. I can supply colour wiring diagrams for the '98 ST2, '00'-03 ST2/ST4, '01-'01 ST4s, '03 ST4s ABS and '05 ST4s. Also 2010 MTS1200, 2015-18 Scrambler, 2017-20 Supersport, '94 916 Strada, 749/999 and 907ie. I did the ST ones about 11-12 years ago when I had an ST4s and have distributed them on various forums. I was a bit taken aback when I found someone on the net selling one of my diagrams for cash!
