but you can refuse to vote for him. which to our credit, we dont. but saying that, he produced the current tory crop. you know, that ones i now think, even on here there is universal agreement on their inability to govern. especially as their chief apologist is gone. (from the forum)
It is the opposition job to oppose the government. I feel Labour under Starmer do give a viable option but I do fundamentally believe in the principles that the better off should support the less well off so a half decent Labour front bench looks very attractive compared to the elitist Tory government we have. Anyway, this have moved a long way from vaccines which we are now very likely to see being rolled out.
Shite. Farage states we should shield the vulnerable and lift this ludicrous lockdown. Makes perfect sense to me....
Ok you aren't up to speed on that. Perhaps answer me that. How does Farage propose to shield the vulnerable whilst letting the virus do what it does amongst the young and fit? Who does he think is looking after the people who are shielding or need care? It can't be their usual young fit carers because there is now every chance they have the virus. What's his solution to that?
I thought most, if not all, carers were tested on a regular basis. It wouldn’t be easy to implement everything to allow the world to return to ‘normal’ but do you think we should just remain in some sort of lockdown until everyone that can has had a vaccine ?
I don't have the solution nor do I claim to. I do however put my trust in experts who have studied or work in the field of infectious diseases rather than the utterings of Nigel Garage who, at a stretch, could be seen a a expert of how not to be elected to Parliament.
But the virus' impact on the young and fit is next to nothing. Let it rip ffs, do it's thang. The death rate figures aren't very scary are they? But if you listen to MSM you'd think corpses were piling up on the street. If you can interrogate the vulnerable, it would be much easier to manage. What do you propose? That we just keep locking down again and again. Until we're all in wigwams?? But the experts say blah, blah, blah.... Well it depends which 'experts' you listen to and wish to believe. There are many experts out there saying that the experts are talking shite! Who's right? The experts that the government tell you? The whole control measures approach to this covid thing has been utterly ludicrous. The economy is totally FUBAR'd now. It ain't getting fixed anytime soon.
Looking at the whole picture though, what about the damage that is done by the measures to control the virus, not just economically but other treatments, mental health etc. Yes listen to the experts about the virus, don’t ignore the others though, maybe find a ‘middle ground’ that does the least overall harm.
lock up the old and infirm, you have to lock up their whole supply chain and care sector. thats no way to treat the old folks that won the war and made the country what it is today, voted for brexit and No in 2014. hmm, hang on, scrub that. jail the lot of em.
Excellent data tracker here showing ICU averages over the last 5 years and vs 2019 https://data.spectator.co.uk/city/nhs
Looking at the diagram "Critical care bed occupancy rates vs 5-year average" if the hospitals had taken 15% of their ICU beds out of general use (rightly or wrongly) on the basis that a pandemic is sweeping the country, and they may be needed to save lives the usage shown would not be unusual. That the usage is so high given that the scheduled "routine" surgeries are reduced makes me wonder what the patients in ICU are being treated for?
Thats a good question, although have they actually taken out 15% of ICU beds because of the pandemic? or do you mean that hospitals have historically cited capacity when at 85%? I think what's more telling is the actual level of hospital admissions in general are no more than previous years, contrary to what the government decides is slide worthy in its misleading PowerPoint presentations and contrary to what the BMA & PHE suggests. Influenza and Pneumonia cases are usually rife throughout the winter months, September through March and beyond have always seen a huge spike in respiratory illnesses and hospitalisations because of them, and yet they're both well down, abnormally so, so much so in fact it's simply not credible. And it's all back to this tunnel vision approach that everything is covid. Got covid? OK that's what you're on hospital for then 'tick' (let's ignore the fractured tibia) Died? Did they ever show a positive test for covid within the last 28 days? OK, they died WITH covid 'tick' Its beyond farcical now, the credibility of PHE,some Drs heading BMA, Sage, the lot of them, I'm afraid they're all in the toilet. Some are making political points, some are trying to justify past poor decisions based on flawed models, some have merely painted themselves into a corner and now can't change tac. The data is there
i'm sure folks have seen this already in their publication of choice. . ONE of the world’s oldest and most respected medical journals has published a damning attack on the UK Government, saying “science is being suppressed for political and financial gain” in the mould of “some of history’s worst autocrats and dictators”. The journal argued that Covid-19 had “unleashed state corruption on a grand scale”, and that politicians and industry are guilty of “opportunistic embezzlement”. The British Medical Journal (officially the BMJ since 1988) published the article, entitled “Covid-19: politicisation, ‘corruption,’ and suppression of science”, in its most recent edition. In an unusually political intervention, the journal accuses the Government of claiming to “follow the science”, when in reality: “Government appointees are able to ignore or cherry pick science - another form of misuse - and indulge in anti-competitive practices that favour their own products and those of friends and associates.” BMJ lashes out at 'state corruption' and 'suppression of science' in UK | The National
