Was I Wrong?

  1. dont want to make this a long one so ill try keep it short.

put a deposit down on a Ducati V2 ex demo from Pidcock Ducati in Nottingham, I even went down from Manchester to have a quick ride of it and see its condition, sorted a few issues with it and its all good.

they sent the paper work over for me to finalize the deal. While we did keep in contact i dragged it for a few weeks sending it back due to work etc. whilst also telling them im not in any rush. I was thinking the deposits done and im sure they know i want it so ill leave it a little longer because i probably wont be riding anytime soon.

Then i seen the bike back advertised on Ebay and AT, so i sent the paperwork the next morning via Special Delivery. On the third day they decided to contact saying they wont be selling me the bike and will return my deposit.

Now im not bothered about missing on the bike, theres enough V2's for everyone but i was pissed that they decided to relist it without any contact to warn me its getting late or even return my deposit before relisting. still annoys me now just thinking about it. this whole process from initial interest to return of deposit took around 5 weeks.

Am i right to be pissed or was it my fault?

  2. 5 weeks!? I'm honestly not surprised they fucked you off and sold it on. You left it far too long IMO. Dealers margins on bikes aren't huge so they have to shift them at a reasonable rate.

That said, they should have let you know. I'm not entirely certain, but I think once you've put down a deposit, you've entered a contract with them. But I might be wrong.

  3. Just think of how you would have dealt with it if you was the seller.
MH is right they should have contacted you before delisting.

  4. Nope, no right to be peeved at all, you've strung them along and messed them about, how much comms was there from you to them whilst you were delaying ?

  5. Similar thing happened to a friend of mine last year. He put a deposit down on an A5 at a non-Audi main dealer. Was told at the time that there was a lot of interest in it (It was only 15 months old but had been returned to the dealer by the owner as he could not afford the payments & was up at a great price). By his own admission, he delayed too much & didn’t return phone calls because he was “busy” I know him well & he is exactly like this! The dealer sold it on to the next guy that was on the list & returned his deposit. Only difference is, they did try to contact him but as Mary says, dealers need to hit quota & if they feel you’re messing them around, particularly if they can sell it anyway, you’re in the wrong imo. Should’ve contacted you first though.

  6. Business is business.

Many business's don't have the luxury of waiting around for people who may or may not buy stuff.

Not to sound rude but they will just think you are a time waster.

  7. champagne taste and beer money..... if i was the seller i would give you a reasonable amount of time but five weeks... you reap what you sow!

  8. In my opinion your lack of movement other than a deposit they probably thought you didn’t want it. Some people are happy to loose a deposit.

Regular updates from both of you would have been a good thing to do just so that you both knew that you were buying and selling

you gotta take that one on the chin

  10. I've always found them excellent to deal with.
I can't blame them for selling it on.

  11. 5 weeks! Piss take:mad: crabbing the dealer because you were in no rush!.. Did you ever make it clear to them that it would take that amount of time?? If you hadn’t then I’m surprised they didn’t do it earlier. Boot on the other foot, How would you feel if someone did the same to you and kept you waiting for weeks and having to chase you about to finalise the deal! Stalling tactics are usually associated with messers or someone that has buyers remorse!! If you needed the 5 weeks then you should have had made that clear from the getgo. The mere fact they were chasing you around to finalise the purchase would also indicate that you didn’t inform them! So I have zero sympathy :punch:

    Suck it up buttercup!

  12. Thanks for the replies.

I told the salesman at least 4 times im not in any rush, i always returned a call or email when contacted.

Im definitely not angry anymore after reading your opinions o_O and the bike is still not sold if anybody is interested

  15. A bit of a baptism of fire, some of the responses on here! However we’re all saying the same thing, just some in a more...er direct way  If you’re a genuine buyer & just weren’t on the same wavelength as the dealer, it’s a lesson that as I say, my mate also found out. I know he wasn’t a chancer, but he would admit his laziness cost him. Good luck finding the right bike.
