Howdo! Anyone using a tracker? Wondering what to look out for and which model is recommended? Any Pros & Cons? Cheers Pablo
Howdo Steve! Main reason is so I can get insurance with all the mods done on the bike as well No one will touch the bike if I disclose all of them.
I've fitted quite a few Road Angel BikeTrac units now. Very good bits of kit, no problems in the 3 years or so i've used them and customers rate them. easy to use and keep tabs on. They're also approved by Ducati UK
trouble with tracker is you got to activate it quick ,as the criminals will try to remove it and disable it very soon after stealing your bike ,so say if your asleep when the bikes nicked wake up 6 hours later ,call tracker and police ,no signal ! you need a loud alarm and tracker so you got the golden hour but on a happier note my police team arrested 2 scum last night who had been stealing high powered bikes ,tracker was the key , led us to the scums back garden ,the bike owner had heard them break into his garage ,and called us and tracker we were on the phone to tracker pinging the bikes location as it was pushed by the suspects ,get this, by suspect 1 on stolen moped using his foot to push the high power bike ,as suspect 2 sat on it after breaking steering lock ,very exciting as police dog units, helicopter waited til the scum got to thier end destination then we pounced and the scum was already stripping the bike trying to find the tracker this was 20 mins from when it was stolen ,, more stolen bikes in thier garden and more parts than halfords ! they turn them around quick time , these criminals are out thier this is big business what it shows is steering locks are crap need stronger metals , alarm and tracker and a ground anchor .biggest padlocks you can can find ,they had massive bolt croppers !
Howdo! Bike is in a garage with the secure ground anchor, chain padlock, garage defender, bike has standard ducati immobiliser (Key activates) but need tracker to get insurance (Due to mods to the bike....plus trying get the correct value back if stolen). As you said they had loads of bike spares in the garden, so they must be known to police? What punishment will they get??? I thought you get a text message if the bike is moved as well?? Cheers Pablo
BikeTrac kicks off as soon as the bike is moved and alerts you via mobile. It's possible to set a ring fence up around it so that say, if you move it out of garage it'll stay quiet. If the bike goes further, say off the drive then it chimes up. Rapido recovered one of their demos using it. Definately better than an alarm nowadays IMO.
My insurance insisted that the D16 had a tracker, but weren't bothered about an alarm. With mine the tracker notifies a call centre, which then contacts me. Bit of a pain when in for service 'cos you have to let them know when it's being moved in a van etc. I recently forgot and had to go through the security check with them. At least I knew my bike was on its way back from JHP.
I'm insured with Ducati insurance (only people who'll cover the Sedici ). The tracker is Datatool, just called "tracker" Car & Fleet Tracking Systems - TRACKER. They do two versions, one which you have to tell them your bikes missing and they switch it on, and one which is on constantly. Downside to the unit is that unlike the road angel it's non transferable from bike to bike, it also has an internal battery that can't be recharged, so if bike battery goes dead or you disconnect it to work on the bike, it uses the internal battery up until it dies. The battery is designed to run the unit for one month. Once batt has died I assume you have to buy another.
I had a tracker on my previous Bayliss rep....it was sh1t!!! The bike was transported in a van for 80 miles & they didn't ring & couldn't find it......I've got a road angel on my new bike....they ring if I rock it on the stand!!! I can also find it via internet!!! Go for the road angel!!!
I would have fitted road angel, but (a) tracker was already fitted, and (b) at the time it wasn't insurance credited
Totally understand the statement above, however after owning the bike for 14years and spending that much time altering & tweaking to how I want the bike.............YES!!! Never gonna sell it. A Ducati is for life not just a summer!!!!!!!!
Beauty of the web portal with RoadAngel is that you can see where the bike is. You choose to call the police or go collect yourself.....with your mates ;o)
Agreed, tracker doesn't give you that option. If Road Angel is now recognised by the insurance it seems a far better option with more features. As for would I want the bike back, for me, it was down to they wouldn't insure without one.
no one commenting on the great yob i did nicking bike thieving scum bags doh !and banging them up for few years !
