950 New Bike Time

  1. I'm off to look at a 2017 950 touring tomorrow. 2 to choose from one in White with 2700 ish miles and one in red with 8700 ish miles which is my preferred.

Anything I should be looking out for or asking, recalls etc?

  4. White is faster! I must say I thoroughly enjoyed my test ride on 950. Very capable bike, and better than my 2013 MYS in many ways, what is your current ride?

  5. I only ride on track at the moment so I have the new GSXR. I want to do some touring again and there is the possibility I might ride to the euro trackdays at some point.

  6. I only decided today but I'm not one to hang around once the seed is set.

  7. It may, or may not have a certain lack of oomph for you, other than that it’s a fab bike.

  8. I'm not too fussed about oomph on the road. My last road bike was the Scrambler 1100 sport and I didn't find that particularly lacking but wasn't really my thing.

  11. Of Course!
If you're seeking performance, you have to go with the lighter bike with superior power/weight ratio.
White is a lighter color than Red consequently, all things equal, it will be faster. It's simply logical.

  14. The bike is fitted with the original Scorpion Trail tyres are they any good?

  15. Depends on what sort of riding you are going to do. If it is only tarmac, IMO, there are definitely better tyres out there but with only 2700 miles, there’s plenty of time to pick and choose before they wear out. Andy

  16. Thanks Andy. Yes tarmac only. Have you any recommendations if I decide to change them, I know you have a lot of experience of road riding.

  17. What wheels have you got ? The new 950 is 19” front with a 170 profile rear which really limits your choice. If they are 17” front and 190/55 profile rear, take your pick from Michelin, Bridgestone, Continental and my personal choice, Metzeler. I have found that the recommended pressures do not always suit my riding so tend to see how changing the pressures affect the handling before trying a different brand. I run Roadtech 01s 3 psi higher which I find is the best compromise for me. It does chamfer the front tyre in the lifetime if the rear so do have to replace both together. Andy

  18. The scorpions are much stickier than Michelin and far more feedback than Pirelli Angel or PR series, but you will probably not see more than 4000 miles from Scorpions. As already stated rather limited offerings for your wheel sizes. If you get on with the scorpions then get another set. They certainly offer much better feedback than the Michelin PRs and Angels .

  19. Yes 19" front I'm afraid so choice will be limited.

  20. Im happy with the scorpions on mine so far. I have been through some rubbish weather and they felt secure.
