Anyone know if the standard Ducati immobilizer system is "Thatcham approved" ? Insurance restriction... If it makes any difference mine's a 2018/2019 V4 Speciale... Thanks
Yeah, that’s what I meant. Hate the bastard things. Had this tracker system on a car too. Absolute PITA. Put up with it for a year then changed insurance companies.
Yeah, I know. It's mad because this year has the same underwriter (insurance company) as last year, but now they want evidence that the immobilizer is Thatcham. I hope that the standard system on the Ducati is good enough...
The OEM immobilisers used by Ducati are not Thatcham approved. The optional Ducati Security System is. https://www.thatcham.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/September-2020-OE.pdf#page42
I don’t think it’s Thatcham approved though, it can probably be by-passed by the correct sausage/biscuit combination.
This, https://www.thatcham.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/September-2020-OE.pdf#page42, is the latest Thatcham listing which doesn’t refer to any Ducati newer than the 1098. All that means is that Ducati has not submitted their inbuilt security for assessment. I’m surprised your broker asked the question, the number of underwriters prepared to take the risk is very small and I have never been asked about Thatcham compliance for any high value/high risk Ducati, including my Speciale Magnesio. Always been more insistent on a tracker being fitted and ground anchor where the bike is stored. Andy
Thanks everyone. Yes, I'm surprised they're asking too. Think I've got some convincing work to do this week... One thing is for sure is I'm not fitting an additional tracker....on top of Ducati electronics ?!?!
