I got a weird one here chaps. I've been messing with relays and headlights and accidentally cracked one of the headlamp relay units. I guess it's now faulty as it has affected the ignition which cannot be turned off via the kill switch. Does anyone know of this as a confirmed diagnosis as I just cannot understand why a relay fault would cause the ignition to behave like this even when the relay is unplugged! On a separate note anyone know where you can buy the headlamp relays online. I am going to get a few just in case this happens when out on long rides. Cheers Hinchy
This guy is cheap as chips for bits 4 Pin 'Normally Open' contact MICRO Relay - 20A items in towzatronics store on eBay!
Like you say....a weird one! Sorry, not heard of this before but I have to say, like you, find it hard to imagine that the headlight relay has anything to do with this, but who knows....it's a Ducati! Can't be arsed to go pull the relays, can you post a photo of the relay (top and bottom) and I'll be able to tell you if it's a standard item.....in which case you'll get them from any Auto Supplies shop or places like Halfords.
Thanks Andy, I have purchased a couple from the recommend website from Chrisw. I searched the ducatims.com site and found a similar malfunction and the owner said it was water in the same relay, weird!
That really is an odd one. I looked at the schematic and the low beam and high beam relays are operated from the dashboard otherwise I see no wiring connection to the stop or hands free controls.
Maybe a transistor is faulting to ground in absence of the relay, this may cause a parallel return for ignition circuit?
Possibly, maybe he grounded the control output wire that feeds back to the dashboard it's so complex at the dashboard end I guess anything is possible.
