Tbh I was never much of a fan of his, it would be nice if Ryder and Moody came back. As long as it’s not Suzi Perry or Charlie Cox!
Not a fan of Huewen but when earlier in the year he was commentating on Moto3 and when McPhee was fighting for the win he said go on john hit em with your Haggis it fucking made me LOL so i kind of put up with him, i wish Suzie everyone look at me Perry would fuck off as well!!!!!
I don't mind who's in the commentary chair but for feck sake get the facts right when you've the mic.
This came as an immense relief to me, I must say. I've frequently had to mute the tv, so exasperating do I find his gabbling, motor-mouthed, pointlessly adversarial, error-ridden, talk-before-you-think shrieking, and panto-Essex-boy refusal to make the slightest effort at pronouncing foreign names ("BaGGGGGGnaia"). It's been more bearable this year because one didn't have to contemplate the thought that one was funding his travels. The thought of him sat in hospitality somewhere, slurping on a cappuccino ("kapokeeno", he'd probably have called it), telling everyone he hadn't really followed MotoGP for several years before he got the BT gig, aaaaaagh. Though as a cruel sport one might actually miss his reliable blunders. I remember a wet Misano, where as the drizzle came down the long-suffering Ryder speculated whether the riders would all now come in for wets. "NO WAY Julian", Huewen hollered angrily, ex-rider pulling rank, "NO WAY, it's NOWHERE NEAR WET ENOUGH FOR WETS YET, NO WAY" etc etc, and as he spoke the very words, his exclamatory spittle still settling on the microphone (and Jules), a stream of riders pulled into the pits to change bikes. Ryder's silence was eloquent. Huewen, being Huewen, then had to say that the fact that the asphalt was new and dark made it hard to see how wet it was and that it must be wetter than it looked. There were scores of boorish episodes like that. Surprised by the anti-Perry comments though - she's immensely knowledgeable about the sport, always made it clear that her heart lies in two wheels rather than four, and breaks up what would otherwise be a pretty dreary male salon. I do find it a bit too much of a British riders' fan club, but that may be a minority view. Take Bradders' point though: stattos such as Ryder and his successors do need to be the adenoidal foil to an enthusiast. But KH was intolerable.
Not sure where a new generation of commentators is going to come from. When Eurosport failed to secure the TV rights to MotoGP, whether you liked them or not, the voices of Moody and Ryder were ‘the’ voice of MotoGP. Do viewers ‘need’ the experience of an ex motorcycle racer or just want a good commentating voice and style ? I miss the technical input of Spalders but I’m not sure the gossip and anecdotes actually add anything. Whoever it is, please, please, please, NOT Toseland. Andy
Agree. He is a very strange cove. He's 97 now so perhaps not a long-term move. But it'd be fun. And certainly they're his first love - his father Graham was a works TT rider for Norton, and he himself competed in the ISDT.
I like Colin Edwards he talks well and knows his stuff, whitham is good value but obviously not Moto gp standard or is he? Personally could listen all day to them
Like Neil Hodgson, Edwards has an uncontrolled mischievous side and you cannot guarantee that they won’t say something outrageous Andy
Would it be possible for him to take Jack Burnicle with him? I now know where every BSB rider worked, where his mothers cousins dad lives and where his particular town or village lies geographically in the world. Blokes fucking useless.
