Been having a debate with a mate regarding sports bike MPG and Tank ranges as we're going touring next year, and just thought it could be mildly amusing to see what ranges people have managed out of unusual steeds.. I've managed close to 160 miles out of my 1299 Panigale (all motorway) and ran it out in Germany. I've managed 160 miles easily on my GSXR1000R coming back from Donington with less than 500 miles on the clock and she still had more in the tank. Averaging 50+mpg - again motorways. I managed 180 miles!! out of my 2014 Fireblade !! Which to this day I find amazing. Again all motorway en route to Luxembourg. So what have you managed from 'race bikes' using them not as intended !?!?!
Regularly get 140 miles on my 899 before the silly countdown trip wakes up. That’s fairly high rpm riding on deserted A/B roads.
Lowest figures probably weren’t what you had in mind but I get 60 miles max out of my Baines Imola and the same on my D16rr before I got the tank enlarged :-/
80 miles V4s. 90 miles Pani R 170 miles Street Triple Rs (sucking vapour) 140 miles Daytona Moto2 (running in ) 120 miles 748r, similar 996.
Standard '79 900SS would return 60mpg at a steady 110 mph. '74 250 Desmo which's good for 100mph returns around 90 mpg whilst thrashing the life out of it. My 916cc 851 (128 rwbhp) would go 170 miles with a liter or two left in the 17 liter tank at well over 110 mph cruising. I once owned a tuned aircooled YDS7 250 Yamaha that returned 18 mpg, but it would easily do 120 mph, however the tank was soooo small that I had to refill it every day as the 32 mile round trip to work was too much for the tank range to make the 16 miles the next morning... Not sure of mpg, we never did well out our Fz1s Yamahas, but my mate got over the Petit St Bernard pass with a low fuel warning light. Apparently I am am a fatherless child for convincing him it was not far. Its not like he had to push it to the petrol station...no it coasted over the forecourt entrance with a few feet to spare. Some folk just like to complain Worst bike was a gsxr 750 for me 95 miles could see the warning light on.
