Wow! What a bike! Takes some getting used to over my 09 R6, but this bike is awesome... Loads of vibration (which adds to the fun), seems to be a bit of an attention grabber wherever it's parked, pulls like a train and is as planted as the Chealsea flower show. It is so confident in corners it's unreal... It begs to be leaned further and further. The only downsides so far are the heavy clutch compared to my old R6, and the fact that there are no folding mirrors ( need them for my alley way). The sound is incredible. Can't believe that I don't need top gear even in motorway traffic... Mirrors are completely useless which put a grin on my face! Overall I am a very happy bunny!
Yep mirrors are sh1t. You'll get used to the clutch before you know it. Glad you're happy with the new bike. Enjoy it
And it only shakes like a shitting dog till you work out how to ride it properly, and not like he R6 needed to be ridden.
Got mine on Tuesday, hadn't noticed the clutch as heavy at all, I've been riding a Speed Triple for the past 5 years. I've fiddled with the lever position, that seems to help. However I've missed 3 or 4 down changes already & don't like not being in a gear as I take a bend! I'm sure that the mirrors are worse than the mirrors on my old 916 despite my bike having the extended mirror things fitted. My wrists seem fine with the riding position although I still haven't retrained my neck. Same paddock stand quandary as you but I've gone for a clearance DP one from Ducati Wolverhampton (last years grey one). Have to say I'm loving it though.
Yip, it's taken me a while to get used to mine after so long on IL4s but it's a truly brilliant bike. You're gonna love it!
Thanks all. I forgot to mention. Got a couple of false neutrals as well. Is this normal? Used to get some on my old R6 track bike, but very rarely...
I get a lot of false neutrals to be honest and it pisses me off. It's by far the worst thing about the bike. I've adjusted the lever which has improved things but it still does it. If I clutch them its ok but after 6 years on a GSXR it's a real bastard to get used to. I never clutched any changes up the box on the GSXR but find I'm now only using the Quickshifter sometimes as I get too many bad changes.
After moving from GSX-R's I found that you need to be more positive with your gear changes, Can't just brush the gear lever like with some Jap bikes
I tend to have them 5-6 if anywhere, or if I'm a pussy with my left foot. Find hardly any since I went race shift, as no linkage seems to equal less force needed to change
true..ducatis need to be man handled...i had a long term gixxer thou courtesy of the insurance...bored me silly..i only took it out a handful of times..face melting fast but i felt like i was riding pillion..zero involvement or reward for me...but like all suzukis, it had the slickest gearbox in the business, which was strangely dissatisfying for someone used to Italian bikes..the MV had the same smooth action, but required some 'technique' much like a Duke, and was thus more enjoyable...but 'harder' to ride... i dont want easy or perfect..i want involving and organic..
This is making me think it's me after all... I'll just have to practice then! 15 years and this is the first time I've ever had this problem.
Getting very pissed off with the same gonna ring tomorrow and get it booked in not paying 12k for a box full of neutrals!! Richie
Did notice today if I was more aggressive with my left foot, then I didn't have any falsies. Gearbox is miles better than Yams. No bouncing around when trying to find neutral, and is very positive if I ride it hard... So, so impressed with this bike. Fast, gorgeous, and handles like dream! Am in love!!
I'm going to tryt he same thing then, be harder with my shifts. I always try to slot them in as I apparently have a lot of mechanical sympathy. But that's the end of that. Big boot up the box from now on! If it's still the same after another few hundred miles I'll get back in touch with DG and ask them to check it out under warranty. It's such a great bike that this is relatively small niggle for me, but it's still not great having to worry if it's going to happen every time I shift. Andy
I find the more aggressive your riding the better the quickshifter works if your just cruising and you try to use the quickshifter I get a neutral but I'm getting them a lot less now just remember to wind the throttle on before you use it
